Having the biggest federated system in mind, smtp, it could work quite well without specific cdn caching. One upcoming problem I expect are spamming and rogue instances.

Personally, I dislike the Google undo feature. I don't know how it works. The pull down is small and vanishes after some seconds. And then? I am still to late and feel even more sorry for myself (double fail) On my systems I have undo

I run this setup. zfs + zfsnap (not cron anymore, now systemd.timer). I cannot tell if NILFS is doing this too, with zfsnap I maintain different retention times. 5-minutely for 1hour, hourly for 1day, daily for a week. That are less than 60

I use two folders, inbox (currently active mails, also sent ones) and trash, which is the ever growing pile of mails. Most importantly is the use of a mail indexer (notmuch currently) for searching and getting virtual mailbox viewes.

Actually, I do not actively generate, meaning create, a new addresses. I use a filter I'm the delivery process in Exim which truncates a suffix from the local name.
