It sounds like you're referring to C++98 while the article specifically talks about C++0x. C++0x adds closures to the mix so it's now very possible to implement something similar to .NET LINQ in C++.

C++0x introduces a bunch of smart pointers to the standard library (and boost provides them externally for previous versions). What are the advantages of garbage collection over these?

The majority of the comments seem to be negative, yet many of them reflect a misunderstanding of RAII. I've argued the exact argument the author does many times before and got similar responses, it seems to be hard to convey the power of RA

The template error messages part has been improved quite a bit in clang (LLVM's standard front-end) in comparison to gcc. If you haven't already, give it a try.

Thank you for bringing that up. It's called RAII and it's one of my favorite features of C++. The fun thing about it is that it can also be used to manage other resources such as files, sockets, locks or what not.

Well, he did create git. Not that your point isn't valid, just pointing out Linus is actively helping forward progress.

There's not much "Linus vs C++" in there (except for several random bashes with nothing to back them up). It's mostly Linus sharing his POV as the maintainer of the kernel as to why C++ would be harder to work with in a project that has man

Do you have statistics to show the effectiveness of this method? It would be interesting to see the percentage of IE6 visitors over this 6 months period.

The big issue with client side decryption (which sounds like a must if you don't trust all the nodes) is that brute force password guessing turns from almost impossible to extremely simple since it's done offline.
