It works fine for members of my family and extended family that have Ubuntu installs on Intel GPUs. Light gaming and more importantly, hardware accelerated YouTube works just fine. I'd be willing to bet that most people really only wan

Has a separate boot partition ever been the installer default? I know every time I have installed Ubuntu in the last few years, it doesn't offer to set up separate boot or home partitions -- those are allowed manually. It'd be nic

Agree with you here - this is essentially the reason that I don't use Chrome on my desktop (aside from brief testing, or to load up something quickly that requires Flash). Firefox is still a lot better at RAM and CPU usage when hundr

This is inaccurate. Raid56 have always been labeled experimental, but recently, data corruption bugs were found which make it dangerous to use. Other raid levels (raid0, raid1, raid10) work fine and are considered stable -- at least as st

No, you have to go with Linux. I'm using the latest Ubuntu server LTS (since ZFS is also included, and because I'm familiar with Ubuntu). I don't have experience with FreeNAS unfortunately.

The easiest way to do this is to use mirror vdevs, that way you can add disks two at a time. Of course, you miss out on RAIDZ functionality that way, but that's the simplest setup. I've gone ahead and actually created a new array

I love Seamonkey (I have to reinstall it on this machine as I haven't used it in a while), but it's also behind the Firefox dev cycle and doesn't offer the same level of extension coverage that Firefox does. It'd certain

You may not be aware of this, but although I also installed the extension and I am trying it out, Firefox has a way to manage the tab hoarder use case, built into the default install. Using the Awesomebar and typing "%" and a tab

Given that the additions you made were of the "mission" and "values" of a college (which is different from mottos, which are prominent in articles), do you feel that these sections belong in all articles about colleges?

FWIW, this works fine in Firefox as well -- I used https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/chrome-store-... for the first time today, and it works great on the extension published on the Chrome store.

HN is populated by enough "geeks" to make this recommendation relevant: use beets. http://beets.io It's more powerful than iTunes and can sync with databases like Discogs and Musicbrainz to keep data up to date.

I met Hank a few times at various NYC tech functions. Really smart (and friendly) guy who had a great understanding and knowledge of the history of computing. Sad news (and the first death of people within the community that I know).

XMPP continues to work for Google Chat, so there may be better iOS Google Chat clients. Sorry, I haven't used any, so I can't offer any recommendations. ChatSecure seems to offer OTR compatibility, so that may be a decent option:
