Is that the fixed cost/book? What field(s) are you publishing in?

YMMV, but in the past, I've found it fairly easy to just have windows users install python(x,y) for scientific computing purposes. It's huge, but afterwards, most things just work. Anaconda is also a good choice.

Some chemistry journals do not allow you to publish if you place a copy on a preprint server like arxiv. The key to this battle will be funding agencies.

I think internships are extremely useful! I went through a lot in high school and college trying to figure out what exactly I wanted (or didn't want to do). Now, I have a number of interns and some of them have gone on to graduate

It looks interesting! I loved the TV series--but was sad about all of the copyright issues it faced.

People are mentioning Bell Labs, but at it's peak, Bell Labs was THE place to be for condensed matter (my area of physics) research. Academia is littered with people who worked at Bell labs during some part of their career. However,

Does anyone have any thoughts about the pros and cons of this over the Oculus rift for scientific visualization? It seems that it might be easier to deal with user interaction for the Hololens, but without playing with one, it would be har

It's not math or CS, but some chemistry journals don't allow preprints on the arxiv. Also, for some new results in physics, you don't put them on the arxiv if you're worried about being scooped...
