The radius of the observable universe is the distance the furthest stars we could theoretically observe today.[0] So these stars were a lot closer earlier and we can see the light even though the stars are further away than the age of the u

Ok, deeplinks work :) Just a quick PSA for Germans, since today wired.com redirects to wired.de [1] ( which as far as I can tell is just a crappy me-too journal with a Wired license, not a translation) and at least with noScript one gets o

Well, assume that time loops back onto itself. Then the electron goes forward most of the time and you see multiple copies. ( This is of course ridiculous, everybody knows that all electrons are just pointers to one const particle structu

Well of course this is possible. You can port a bug compatible version of a program to any other language. That is called Turing complete ( and may involve writing a x64 emulator in VB Script). /snark A bit more serious, I wonder which

So what I figured out so far: This is a quite nasty bug that may or may not affect everything that links against glibc (or eglibc). However the bug was fixed in glibc 2.18 and the advisory [1] includes a test program at the start of section

My claim is not that C is just as safe as Scala, my claim is that the comparison is only valid if you do not think too hard about it. If you implicitly assume some web app, not too experienced programmers and a typical budget, then Scala is

Calling any Turing complete language "more secure" is probably nonsense. It is possible to write secure applications in C, and it is possible to directly pipe attacker controlled input to a shell in Haskell.

As far as I understand the attack, the attacker brute forces his own DH secret, not the DH parameters. So attacker has the parameters for both connections, gets the public keys from both chat partners and then brute forces two secrets such

Well, Marx distinguishes between price and value. He then argues that price is a feature of the capitalist system, with the consequence that you can only build a theory of capitalism on price dynamics, not a more general theory that would b

This is not a attack on DH, it is a attack on the verification mechanism. So the trick is, the attacker does not need to break DH, he just needs to find two sufficiently similar DH parameters, that the verification still works.

To generate this effect a program has to identify, that the photos are almost identical, that there are smiling people in them and then find a way to stitch the two photos together. I think that qualifies as AI.
