A really cool talk was the Dash button talk. The presenter exploited a bug in the audio stack, or as I like to think about it, he got the firmware by singing the secret code word.

The problem is, that the average citizen does not understand what 'deterministic build' means. One aspect of an election is as a ritual to legitimize the government, and this legitimization currently rests on the argument that in

I had something in mind like, assume that the last line is not a contradiction, then we have c( e- a) on the left and something smaller than one on the right. However, assume the last line is not a contradiction is false, so I can't bu

It is clear that the left hand side has to be zero, however I do not see a straightforward way to prove that without using the contradiction itself and he does not need it to be zero to choose that there is a contradiction, so the claim the

Going quickly through the awesomely titled paper [1], they fit a template to the data and obtain something like 2.9 sigma for their best value, without a obvious way how they deal with the look elsewhere effect. On the other hand, this is p

Probably just random variance. In particular, that most categories of cause of death increased seems to point at random chance, since they should not correlated strongly. (But this is probably something to watch next year.)

I like the experiment, even if I am not too fond of the idea. However it is 2016, so is there a procedure when politics becomes very clearly relevant in the coming week?

We have a very good theory of gravity, general relativity, and actually for anything that was ever used to build anything including the Voyager probes, Newtonian gravity is enough. In a sense we even have a safety net. As for dark matter, t

I think quantitative analysis is at fault. The thing is, mathematics is a language and I can as easily produce a model that encapsulates the lies we tell ourselves in Newspapers, as I can produce a model based on Hitler's Mein Kampf .

Yes, but there are 500 'features' in Word which are almost always really stupid ideas, an experienced graphics designer knows how to use them, 99% of Word users don't. In LaTeX you have to work to do something really stupid.
