It's not just a energy cost issue with AGI though. With autonomous vehicles we might not have the technology, but we can build a good mental model of what the thing can look like and how various pieces can function long before we get t

I think that's another issue with AGI is 30 years away, the definition of what is AGI is a bit subjective. Not sure how we can measure how long it'll take to get somewhere when we don't know exactly where that somewhere even

Isn't the human brain also "just" a big statistical model as far as we know? (very loosely speaking)

Might as well be 10 - 1000 years. Reality is no one knows how long it'll take to get to AGI, because: 1) No one knows what exactly makes humans "intelligent" and therefore 2) No one knows what it would take to achieve AGI Go

I think having a real life JARVIS would be super cool and useful, especially if it's plugged into various things and can take action. Yes, also potentially dangerous, but I want to feel like Ironman.

In my personal circle Jews don’t come up but Palestine and Israel certainly do. Why? Because 1) they were in the news and we discuss current events and 2) being in the tech industry Israel comes up frequently. Why is this an issue?

I don't know, I'm not part of those groups. But my automatic assumption isn't they're a bunch of antisemites or hamas supporters.

It was already dead otherwise I would have downvoted it too. Why? Because the implication of your original post is the only reason that fb group would post about those topics is for bad reasons. Why can’t there just be a casual conversation

Don't vote for dems because they caused Trump to happen, so instead vote for... Trump directly?

Not directly, the there is a strong correlation between use of the product and retention. Ideally yes users that pay but don't use are the best, but those are rare. The cost of delivering the service on an incremental basis is also low

In addition, by definition if the only way to bring manufacturing back to the US is by putting up import barriers, it means US manufacturing isn't competitive, domestically or globally. Unless there is some hunker down period of isolat

It also breaks a lot of the way businesses make and sell stuff today. For example, several car makers makes cars in Canada, Mexico and the US but sells them across the borders (and globally). Honda makes Civics and CRVs in Canada but sells

I don't think the majority view is so much there is no waste in the other areas. With most people I talk to, the objection is mostly with the methods employed and the lack of accountability. For me, I wouldn't have objected to Mus

With the whiplash of tariffs, upping tariffs, pausing tariffs, I don't know how companies can do any planning. A lot of earnings are coming out next couple of weeks. Take Apple for example, how would they forecast Q2 numbers? They have

The numbers at each step is only considering the marginal cost. There are various overheads that are fixed, some described in the article. And of the day the actual profit at each step isn’t necessarily very high.

The stated goal of tariffs is to force companies to shift production back to the US. But US production costs more, hence the outsourcing in the first place, so shifting production back to the US increases cost. If costs goes up then either

This is the part that confuses me too. The US is in an enviable position where a lot of the "shit" jobs are outsourced and in return we get cheap stuff. Why is this a bad thing?
