The no-money argument is less convincing to me, because I see this happen in well-financed companies. A very common scenario is that some person leaves, and is replaced by a new person who ends up getting paid more for doing the same role.

IntelliJ doesn't use LSP as far as I know. It does usually make that kind of DogModel -> WolfModel refactoring.

Every time I'm tempted to go raw SQL I always remember that a) It is tricky to make raw SQL composable in a safe way, and b) I still need to map all those rows into objects somewhere, but now i have to do it by hand

The mechanism in Kotlin that allows them to limit yield() to a sequence{} block , without introducing a new keyword, is pretty dang cool.

It's just a matter of familiarity. If you showed me an article written in Italian I would struggle to read it, but that's not because Italian is inherently an unreadable language.

Having had to use many different logging/observability platforms, I have to say Datadog is one of the better ones I've used. Biggest strength is that it is user-friendly. I had very little trouble finding logs I care about, and to

Cybersecurity being a sideshow to the main event is a brilliant way to frame the problem. It also explains why companies rarely get punished by the markets for data breaches.

I think the original sin here is not making aggregation an explicitly separate thing, even though it should be. Adding a count(*) fundamentally changes what the query does, and what it returns, and what restrictions apply.

I'm currently building a mobile-friendly Postgres database tool. Think dbeaver but on Android. Writing and editing SQL queries on the phone can get tedious. Rather than just giving users a tiny textfield, I am exploring if there are be

Should we introduce a SUBSELECT keyword to distinguish between a top-level select and a subquery? To me that feels as redundant as having WHERE vs HAVING, i.e. they do the same things, but at different points in the execution plan. It feels

My biggest problem with Xcode is that it really only works for Swift, while the Jetbrains stuff (incl. Android Studio) works well for a lot of languages.

The more I think about it, the more I think SwiftUI is inspired by Angular - two-way data binding and observables everywhere. Two-way data binding makes for shorter demos, but it doesn't scale nearly as well as one-way data binding. I&

One of the interesting things about databases is that unlike most other markets, there is no single database that completely owns a majority of market share. MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server and Postgres are very close to each other in terms of ma
