It's simple, they didn't let their developers run free and are paid too little. You have to pay the creators of wealth in order to get wealth in return.

Hmm no, if there is inflation, enact a one time wealth tax and then cancel those money. Also, you can print money to increase supply, this is what the Asian miracle is all about after all. Too bad they didn't print money to increase demand.

What I found is that if a company has a problem and you sell yourself as the solution, you can ask for the moon. This highly depends on the company. If the company is simply looking for bodies, avoid :) Even for the exact same job, I've see

Only if you can get into Microsoft Research. I know a H-1B phD at Google that wasn't making much. I also know a phd at Microsoft doing test... He was making peanuts!
