The assumption that the trajectory of LLMs leads to an actual AGI is, frankly, ludicrously optimistic. The main thing these things should be demonstrating to us is that language learning, alone, is neither equivalent to, nor a reliable si

Interesting, but I just have to giggle at the fact that my reading of the headline at first had me absolutely boggled by the notion of the Romans dyeing snails Tyrian purple.

Sure… and, notwithstanding the apples to oranges comparison — since I can outswim or out stair climb you when you’re on a bike any day of the week — that means you’re demonstrating how fast a human can turn a crank that a human has connecte

Super, sure, superhuman, no… someone running in shoes isn’t superhuman compared to someone in bare feet, anymore than someone using a block and tackle to lift or a wheelbarrow to transport is engaging in superhuman acts just because they’ve

To be slightly pedantic, it’s more like climbing down from a foothill into a very wide valley and then looking up at the mountain you thought you were climbing when you were actually just climbing the foothill.

Within words of the start of the article you already know the pointlessness of this “age old conundrum”… the egg came long before chickens, and long before the dinosaurs the chickens derived from. The egg preceded anything remotely resemb

No amount of government surveillance not actually happening directly inside the minds of my abusers could possibly have protected me. Any amount of government surveillance happening between me and my therapists simply re-victimizes me,

Thanks for the very thorough response(s)… now, a question, what’s the most basic and minimal bootstrap config of emacs (possibly within Doom) that sets a relative lisp-newbie up to effectively work with elisp inside emacs? I’ve used lisps,
