Yep exactly what happened at Microsoft, hence Vista and all the other products that spilled out of Ballmer's tenure like trash out of an overturned dump truck

I just switched to this a few days ago; everything's still very very in flux: https://github.com/janzheng/janzheng-2 I'll have to do a better writeup of it once it's stable and fixed. (Sorry in advance;

At Microsoft many years ago, they used to put a lot of product design work on PMs (who didn't have the training or time / bandwidth to do that well). I think this was the Ballmer era...

Lots of people on HN hate Cloudflare... but they're pretty good on prices, UI, and "just works"ness. Their support is also speedy.

by yawnxyz 3y ago
If they have to raise prices to... $5/mo, to me that sounds like a part of their " no bs" policy. To me, 35c/mo doesn't exactly sound like a service I should be trusting with something like emails. $5/mo won&#x

The Couch / Pouch thing is really drawing me in... can't wait to learn some hard lessons about the funkiness myself...

That data cleanup caveat is an important lesson — thank you so much for sharing your hard lessons learned. I actually don't know SQL very well (coming from design), so something like Couch feel more intuitive to set up as it looks and

Do you ned a lot of experience to know how to start browser-native tools? I wouldn't have a clue how to start with Web Components and all the other things, to build a < 1000 user web app. I've read the Web Components docs and t

Postgres is harder to setup; Using Couchdb can be set up completely in-memory and in IndexedDB as a prototype tool (as PouchDB), then set to sync with a hosted DB somewhere else. For < 10000 user apps, I'd want this flexibility, I t

Heh, it takes a lot of work to convert illegible scribbles in lab notebooks to well-formatted numbers and descriptors that make sense to anyone else but the person who did the experiment. This includes other lab members on the same project.
