Yeah seriously. Just a worse version of the bridge. IMO the cart is leading the horse on this one. Might be more convenient for their dev team to just have a web codebase (though I’d argue if they took the time to transition their web codeb

That's not true though. Every connected component subscribed to a particular slice of state updates...not every connected component, e.g. `useSelector(appState => !!appState.someThing)` only causes a re-render of the subscribed comp

Guess what, this entire thread is literally people discussing using context for… app state. But yeah thanks for being patronizing

Redux isn’t nonsense you’re just being dismissive and not taking the time to learn to understand it properly.

“Monitoring and propagating” — aka one of the global state management solutions being discussed here? Redux state is “just an object” that does shallow comparisons to trigger re-renders

You’re correct and these people advocating for this are definitely re-rendering every component in their tree with every change

My takeaway from these comments is that people either don’t care or literally don’t know how context works but are talking about how it’s better than redux lol

Right but every time that context changes it triggers a re-render of every child component regardless of if it’s consuming that bit of state or not. These comments are making me really question other peoples’ understanding of what I thought

FWIW I think hooks have made types a lot easier to deal with in Redux.

Sorry but what? What do you do when a parent component needs access to a particular slice of state? Refactor the entire tree? What about deeply nested components? Prop drill 100 levels deep?

Almost all of the successful “entrepreneurs” I know are just rich kids who had the time and space to figure things out over the course of 10-15 years after college without worrying about money. Same thing for all of the successful people I

It is a little fishy that Amazon isn’t an available seller when you’re logged out. Makes me think they are doing that in name only and assuming the risk and the shipping for the premium. Wonder if other products are like this.

I didn’t miss the point. It was just soon enough after it happened that I figured they lacked the context about why it was posted, so they thought it was just meant to be a standalone article about this issue and not an attempt to draw a li

The gym is a great example of survivorship bias. Sure, there are people who look “out of shape” and don’t necessarily see huge aesthetic results from it but continue going, but a lot of the people who stick with it are the ones whose bodies

One reason is web scraping. Twitter used to have sequential IDs that made it easy to tell how many users they’d added over a period of time, even after they were public.

Russia is a terrorist state oligarchy with a murderous dictator. No one is actually going to kill this guy in the US. He will obviously get threats, and then reboot with a new $500mm seed round for some new scam from Marc Andreessen in a fe

Yeah I dunno, I mostly mean highway driving. Like I’ll go ~20 over the speed limit (basically the flow of traffic in jersey haha), for an hour and still get there the same time as my original ETA.

I’ve grown increasingly frustrated with google maps recently because its time estimates are just way, way off. My guess is that this has something to do with their ML assuming I will exceed the speed limit by X MPH based on my driving histo

This makes no sense. Owning a home is not paying rent. Paying a mortgage comes with the expectation of accruing equity in the home. Renting does not. You’re comparing renting with being a landlord.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. No matter what, you can still have a great life and be a great father, though. Maybe not as tidy, but still beautiful.
