They're not strictly 'killing it' they are to develop it into Google Places. Back in SXSW Marissa Mayer spoke of consolidating some of their local efforts: http://searchengineland.com/googles-mayer-we-do-have-too-man...

Not sure how many startups built their own servers anymore, this event seems like a response to the Greenpeace accusations of Facebook's environmental responsibility or wherever. Edit: I agree it's a good thing, it's just that hosting a pre

Google is under huge pressure from lawmakers in this regard: http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-20051248-261.html During the last COICA/piracy congressional hearing reps were asking why Google doesn't fix all the ills in the world and stop

I don't get that logic. They aren't the only ones with billions to spare, Microsoft for example has more. You are suggesting that they mustn't find a way to protect their interests from patent suits because otherwise they are abusing their

Once again Google is the subject of the Arrington April fools' post, always controversial.

There was a post on lifehacker recently comparing the browsers available on Android: firefox, dolphin, default etc the winner is irrelevant. Amazon recently released an app store 'appstore' for Android and an app for their cloud music servi

That's not true, the Verizon Android phone that uses Microsoft's search engine has the market and gmail installed, it just doesn't have the sticker. And the fact that it's open source is very relevant here as it implies minimum restrictions

It's open source software given for free so any slight bit of control Google tries to exercise doesn't really tip the scale to the other side, specially when alternatives exist. Also I recommend the K-9 mail client, it's very good: https:/

That's obviously an April fool's hoax. I mean Microsoft is bigger and richer than Google, they practically own the desktop OS and enterprise software markets, they won't accuse anyone of anti-trust because they aren't dominating search as

Market, Maps, Gmail. And it's nothing like Windows (I'm sick of this analogy) Android is open source, you can and many do, sell non-approved phones, they can use the Amazon store (another app store is the biggest testimony for openness). An

I don't understand the critical tone nor the logic behind this piece and I can't imagine what those complaints to the DOJ might look like "We can freely access and use the source code but we want more!" Also the Elop comment was hilarious,

One could argue that Google have always been 'startup-y' and any 'drain' reports can be attributed to media exaggerations and over-echoing of separate cases - as the media often does. Regardless this shake-up is set to streamline management
