Then it would be perfectly fine, they would be able to stop Microsoft and its elk from extorting patent fees, but the whole issue lies in that the patent went to Microsoft and Apple and others like them for the sole purpose of extorting And

It's hard to take Gruber seriously when everything he writes distorts reality and commonsense in the sake of representing them in ways that favor Apple Inc and its endeavors. His thoughts on WebM vs. Apple backed MPEG-LA are equally ridicul

Your argument is valid, but I think so is the 'quid pro quo' notion, and as I mentioned, personally I'm not bothered by ads and yes, I suppose I do find some value in them now that you mention it.

No, I think I owe something for the free services and content I use, nothing is free, I'm aware of the tech aspects of it and I'm not concerned by any privacy implications. I'm also generally not bothered by ads and use Readability or equiv

It's sad that pro-patent asstroturf hijacks serious anti-patent discussions on HN, it's obvious that the HN sentiment towards software patents is that of disgust, yet when a passionate and rare post like this makes headlines somehow a pro-p

Having patents doesn't mean you agree with the state of the patent system, also they have yet to sue anyone over patents.

They bid for them defensively as dictated by a broken patent system. The problem is that all their competitors joined together to block them from buying the patents so they could tax Android.

Your innuendo doesn't prove any 'anti-competitive' practices, consorting to band a patent cartel in order to strangle opensource on the other hand is.

It's not a Trojan if you have to install it, specially as one has to enable side-loading to install it. FUD.

The 'gag' in question doesn't apply specifically to this matter, employees usually aren't allowed to discuss this sort of stuff, they let PR handle it.

Of course there are valid reasons for the policy, Facebook's growth is proof enough. Real names carry more weight and I doubt it's more than a handful of self-described activists who are whining about nyms. I'm saying that she is on a crusa

I agree, most people use their real names (see: Facebook), and a new service should focus on the majoring or its users first get that right then address the statistically less significant (but evidently very loud) segment.

1. It must be in proportion, and not expect an immediate fix specially since Google has valid reasons for their policy. 2. Still not a proof. And she could be interpreting other instructions as forcing a 'gag'. And me using a pseudonym here

This is getting silly and borderline paranoid. I think this whole pseudonym thing is an overreaction, and an unfair criticism to an incomplete project. As for the this 'gag' stuff she offers no proof and seems like she is just conveniently

I think this matter highlights the absurdity of being offended by issues discovered during beta-testing. I suppose it's beta testing for the masses so people start assuming it's the finished product.
