I don’t like how this thread is just attacks on the author and not a discussion about the language on the other hand the language is not really publicly available so it’s hard to discuss, I guess

The same company seems to offer “cheerpx for flash”, that runs flash in browser by running entire x86 virtual machine in wasm , and on that machine runs full official Flash runtime licensed from Harman. I’m surprised that even works.

This is a curious project I found out randomly (well I was looking at plantUML JS demo and wondered how they managed to get Java code to run in browser). Note that this is a proprietary software, that can be used for non-commercial purposes

I was looking recently for an application on Windows that can show me simply a content of EML file (Outlook mail format). I found only TC and Thunderbird; but Thunderbird started showing me stuff about setting a mail and address and everyth

But then nobody can interpret the machine, only software that you need to write on your own, which makes the whole exercise useless as you can just read the wasm directly? I’m surely missing something btw

But then what will actually interpret the WASM? The font reader? That doesn’t have WASM compatibility?

I don’t understand the WASM part at all and I feel dumb How can WASM be in font? Font is a font, not WASM file. It’s a different format

Interesting. I tried to make a Safari extension and it is a really ridiculous experience. You need to write basically two “wrapper” native Swift/ObjC apps, in addition to the javascript extension. I thought they were making fun of me.

The safari rules are even less capable that that, last time I checked.

Yeah the original article is a bit of rose tinted glasses. The iMacs were pretty and started a lot of HW innovation but the actual experience of using them was not great. OS 8/OS 9 were still bad operating systems, and the first few re

I mean the idea itself is fine but it’s also the most basic thing. “Food deliveries, but on the internet!” It’s the first thing you can think of! Business like this is 1% initial idea, 99% execution and cutting costs.

I think it was not really making money the whole time they operated it though and the job finding angle wasn’t really making that much money, neither was the private enterprise SO thing

Compare the experience of adding stuff to OSM and to Google Maps. Much easier. OSM is for nerds. Very hard to add even basic info. Google Maps it’s trivial. Same as uploading photo to Google Maps is easier than adding it to WikiMedia Common

Not directly related but last time I was this creeped out is when a antivirus company wanted to sell us crazy amount of data on our customers. Apparently AV companies lose money on the customer endpoint protection (it’s basically for free!)

The article says Chrome sabotaged JPEG XL. I am saying that JPEG XL is a new format, which it is; any additional format that is supported means more code, more potential for bugs, more security issues (format parsing is one of the biggest s
