It was probably "meant to be used" (or at least originally written) on a physical terminal rather than a terminal emulator. Nothing wrong with moving with the times. A graphical emacs session does offer plenty of benefits, not least having

Indeed. But it's not like using Emacs on any other platform.

Not wishing to get into an argument or stray off-topic too far, but Emacs (Carbon Emacs, at least), works absolutely fine on Mac OS. I've had no problems with it, and I use lots of extra libraries.

Indeed. I did read the article and I'm aware of that anyway. I was responding to the comment.

It's disallowed because it can cause failures to deliver if a borrow can't be located. Lots of fails can lead to systemic problems.

Well what he describes isn't how options work either, it's more like futures (assuming his $100 was the futures price for next Friday).

What this article is getting at is naked shorting. That ban included "normal" shorting (borrowing shares first).

There are keyboard controls already: the arrow keys work (at least on Firefox on Mac OS) to go forwards and backwards and turn, + and - to zoom.

CDOs are not necessarily just composed of mortgage derivatives. They can be put together from bonds, CDSs (synthetic CDOs), syndicated loans (CLOs), other CDOs (CDOs squared), a mixture of these and other debt instruments.

"Rubberized keys"? I've got a couple-of-years old white plastic MacBook and the keys certainly aren't rubber. Have they changed to be like calculator keys now?

Kind of misleading title - it implies that the whole of GMail ran out of storage space, whereas it was in fact just this guy.

SLRs use phase-detect actually, using separate AF sensors. Contrast-detect is used in compact cameras (non-SLRs) and optionally in live-view mode on some DSLRs.

Depends how long a lens you're using. You'd need a pretty fast shutter speed at 600mm+.

Interesting. I tend to just build stuff myself from source and use GNU stow. I'm amazed I hear so little about stow, it's so useful. I just configure with a prefix arg of something like /usr/local/stow/package-version, then use stow to inst

Auto-focus on most cameras (those that use phase / contrast detecton AF, at least) doesn't emit anything, unless you mean emissions from the circuitry used to control it. Some cameras have a AF assist light for helping the AF in low light,
