It's as much a theory as saying that a body is formed of limbs, torso, head, etc. I have a body, I inhabit it and can observe it directly. You're trying to word your way out of words. It's like you're asking me what'

FWIW in my experience these changes are not immediately noticeable, but once you do get used to better gear, if you were to go back to the old one, then you'd notice the difference. Perhaps not a very viable experiment with this mod,

The analogy breaks down here because the users made their own vending machines. For example I made this comment, and I am allowed to edit it or even remove it. Imagine now for a second if hacker news was allowed to manipulate or modify user

That is a fair point, but as a thought experiment, I can't really say. I just think the immediate assumption that you need those non-technical voices should be reconsidered.

Consciousness is the aggregate of emotional, sensory, and thought formations. With these forming a thread into a narrative through memory, we forge identities. All of this happens in the substrate that is consciousness. If it is unclear why

It works for what? Take a step back. What is social media achieving in its current state. If you only look at the shiny cat videos and dances and memes, that's not the purpose. The purpose is the mass collection of data. If your only s

You suggested that consciousness is no more than a useful social abstraction. You can examine consciousness without the need for words. This is the issue with this topic, people stay in the structure of language to try to define that which

The real answer to these kinds of problems is that there is no ONE effective solution, and to really tackle you must combine various strategies. Self control is definitely useful but if you depend on it solely you will eventually fail.

To say consciousness doesn't exist is akin to taking a pen and writing "this is not ink".

Absolutely, the word is integration and it's not discussed enough. It can happen with LSD and other psychedelics too, but you have to be open to that and not consider them just party drugs, as many people do. Very rewarding too if you

I do actually have a "never" list, which is stuff that's so loaded emotionally it just lived permanently in my todo, and I resolved that if an item is there for like weeks, I can move it to another list. The thing is I almost

Yes, it sounds dumb, but just don't. Make shorter lists. I can only speak for myself of course, but I had this problem and I observed a few things: - Some tasks just don't get done even if they've been listed. They are clutte

I believe it's not often talked about how important intuition is, for everything in life, and this does include productivity. But I think for intuition to flourish you need a special type of freedom of thought and low stress, which mig

People accept quite bad things due to pure reason, too. The filter of reason should not be the one overseeing everything else, but that of wisdom. Both mystic experiences (an umbrella under which psychedlic experiences fall under) and reaso

I think this is in fact one of the main functions of art, to "translate" your inner journey into characters and in the process you give a sort of mirror for an audience to reflect on. You're not telling them what to do, but p

To be fair, perhaps most sonatas include transposition within them, only it's written out. This actually presents a hurdle for me, because if I learned a theme in G, and now I have to play it in D I feel like I know it, so I don't

Using current technology as an analogy for consciousness is the equivalent of trying to understand natural phenomena by modeling them after human emotions and behaviors, such as greeks did with their gods.
