Short answer, No... Long answer, 'sort of'. DJB uses a custom nameserver for DNS, so only one of the lookups would have to go through Tonga. The web request wouldn't leave the US (assuming that's where you are). It goes

This is absolutely true, but in some ways this is more about reducing the number of 'attempted connections' in the sshd log. Meaning, any failed connection that is recorded (and ideally shipped off to a centralized log system) is

I think a lot of the people in this comment thread are missing the point when using the `sshd` example. There is no single infallible way to secure ssh, but there are a lot of things that can be done together to make it pretty darn hard to

The reason for that is because IP is not 'integrated' with layer-2 tech like Ethernet. In fact, for a very long time Ethernet was only really used on local networks. Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) [1] is a completely separate data

There are things that powershell does well, but I wouldn't say that it's really all that unixey. It relies far too heavily for the user to have an understanding of the windows object model, which frankly a lot of sysadmins don

I don't like this approach very much because it's much more complicated than it would have to be. Security is about layers, and this is essentially one layer that acts as the sole guardian for sshd. The way that I like to do this

This is what holds me back from 'smart' devices that have the potential to cause real harm... We've been making motors (electric or combustion) for over a hundred years, and gotten pretty damn good at making them safe and re

You're technically correct, and what I should have said was 'zero-carbon emitting sources' as was in the source. But for practical purposes there is so much Uranium on this planet that we'll most likely never even use 1%

This type of storage, whether it be water reservoirs or compressed air, is especially important in Ontario. We have a very strong base supply from our three large nuclear facilities and hydroelectric dams, but the rest is largely made up of

That's a great idea! Unfortunately it looks like they've fully locked down their network since about 20:00 (EDT), so that will have to wait for tomorrow to try out.

Well, it does more than just XOR but the goal is to just scramble the traffic enough that it looks like a bunch of nonsense rather than a TLS handshake. The actual VPN provides the encryption, this layer adds a socket on top that garbles up

Not sure. My information is largely based on observations made by people that live or have lived in BY. It's sort of common knowledge there that regardless which ISP or carrier you're on there's always one hop in common when

I have some close acquaintances in BY, so this has been hard. We saw that (at least as of 8 PM UTC) outbound connections to HTTP servers wasn't really a problem. A fresh ec2 box with a basic web server wasn't effected. So, early y

The thing is though, if you trace all of this back it does end up coming from a very real place. For hundreds of years the governments have been completely willing to let people be poisoned and die. They did practically nothing about DuPont

To me, the most attractive thing about this device is that it's fanless and relatively cool. My 'on the go' device is a 2012 XPS 13 which gets very hot and is uncomfortable to use as a 'laptop' on bare skin. That&#x
