How is this start up going to pay the bills?

It is ironic that Apple is supposed to be protecting us by having very rigid policies for what and what does not enter the app store but they let an app access contact data without permission from the user!

I have done some side by side comparisons between Google and DuckDuckGo. Google seems to produce more relevant results than DuckDuckGo. I really want to like and use Duck Duck Go...I will keep trying!

All of them support the Macbook. A better question might be which community has the best documentation. I believe Ubuntu probably has the best documentation for the Macbook and is the most noob friendly.

Perhaps...however, our influence in that arena has to be the most powerful.

Fair enough. My employer uses Exchange (for some reason still running Exchange 2003!!!) and I have always struggled getting mail clients to play properly with exchange. I have finally given up and am running Outlook virtually.

Great advice.

Thanks for the encouragement! Many are just coming to the realization that they are the product. Hopefully people will care and the established model will implode.

I own several Apple products and reading this article makes me feel awful that I'm supporting such practices in China. Unfortunately Apple is not the only hardware company that is guilty. Perhaps the next movement will be in "Fair Trade Co

Alas, no response :-(

Why would you choose to run Exchange?

I have successfully left Google and Gmail. I began to worry about the amount of information Google had of mine (about 8gb worth of email). I now pay for email. I have thought about setting up a mail server - perhaps that will come in the

Wow. I can't believe there is forum dedicated to flashlights!

It is a shame that America sets the tone for much of the world when it comes to drugs.

This is a great point. In most larger office settings, you are expected to wear many hats and respond quickly to issues that arise throughout the day. When I need to really focus on something, I leave my cubicle and sneak away with a lapt

Looks interesting...but what is the real application?

by yabai 15y ago
Interesting. Having lived overseas, that explains why it would take ages for a film to arrive (sometimes 1 year). Many films would never arrive...

What is the logic behind waiting to release Hollywood movies outside of the US?

I would be curious for you to share some information or opinion on this topic. I am always up for learning new things. How can this critique be improved? Give us some examples! Raise the level of discussion!

The model came from Prussia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prussian_education_system It is amazing that our delivery of education hasn't changed much. I'm sure it would be up for debate as to what country has a better model. I certainly

by yabai 15y ago
What is changing? Public education is still based on a very outdated model (at least in the US).

I am in education and agree with much of what you have written.

If nothing else, this article made me consider all of the 'retro' ideas I live with everyday. It is amazing how much things advance while staying the same. What other 'retro' tech hasn't changed much? The automobile?

When starting with Vim I completely changed all of the software that I interact with. That means: mutt for email, vimperator, vimprobable or vim plugin for chrome, mocp with vim keybindings, newsbeuter and dwm with simple keybindings. Aft

Programming should be part of mandatory curriculum for students. I often sit at meetings an hear non-tech colleagues say things like "how does the internet work?" or "what are we going to do if the internet fills up". I would hope that thea

It is kind of inspiring knowing that someone with little experience can develop a pretty cool web app!

Do I really want to give Apple more information about myself? Can I trust any company with private information? I think it is kind of creepy that they would know about every album I own (and pay $25/yr for the privelege). What am I missing?

by yabai 15y ago
Agreed. Over half of my calling is via skype or other voip service. The evolution is happening...but a clear winner has yet to be identified. Perhaps there will never be a clear winner...

Doesn't this illustrate once again that community policing always works better than corporate policing?
