While I agree, I think a bigger problem is that the fresh crop of talent has mechanisms to compete that achieve both ageism and a reduction in efficiency on par with full blown institutional dementia. Eternal September in design and framewo

Doesn't everyone have an old phone at this point? Is the app going to check if activity implies it is their current phone? It seems easy and less intrusive for the majority(?) who wont get anything in return for installing a sketchy ap

Thank you very much for your answers and thoughts about my many questions! I hope you will go on to write more about the subject. Most of my questions relate in some way to my last time setting up a new network about 2 years ago. At the tim

That seems unlikely to me.. If you manufacture, you order components in bulk or they are large and expensive if it is a capital good. Things like small generalist repair shops lose out.

A profit model based on the defaults is certainly pretty reasonable, and eforcing that on manufacturers is perhaps logical, but if a company is afraid of letting the user change the defaults to use different combinations of products that th

I meant 80% of the market runs Android primarily on hardware price.. If you are using a newer Android, the manufacturer has been coerced to make a google search bar not only prominent but impossible to hide, even manually by the user.

Interesting reading, but it kind of glosses over the important problems for me. For example: Do all OS distributions have new enough openssh, is it ever built with missing support by default? what extensions are necessary in the certs to be

> But it could not be simpler or easier to bypass Google. Really? Unless you pay Apple considerably more, you will have a google search bar prominently on your phone that you can gimp but cant hide or change to another search provider.

Replace monopoly google with monopoly clear channel and you have exactly that problem. Your landlord might be renting the wall next to your driveway to Clear Channel or the neighbor might own it and rent it to them. But if it can fit a bill

Having any STEM degree from anywhere has probably lowered your risks of a gap (or level drop) and potentially permanent drop in salary considerably, with more for it being in CS. The degree also gives you options like embedded or government

I don't see how you get that conclusion. The OP seems to be saying bootcamps alone are insufficient and a poor choice for someone who will not be able to get a degree and wants career longevity. I've worked with a lot of people fr

We have plenty of central authorities for the technical fields, for example IETF, IEEE, W3C all have systems for creating filtered papers and standards.. There is plenty to keep up with in applied CS that is the same as in medical and legal

Yeah, though I think its odd to focus on chromeOS having 6 years, when Android devices have 0-3 years from first manufacture. Manufacturers of phones really seem to have set expectations so low for phones that it is uneconomic to make a pro

The US system's structure penalizes companies for hiring workers between 20-40 hours. Any company that doesn't rely on flexible <20 hour employees or salary + forced-overtime is basically throwing money away. edit oops- <2
