Hard disagree, web won because of the deploy story. Users don't have to install anything. Html and css is a terrible API for app layout, because it wasn't designed for that

My first job required maintaining a very old informix 4gl app. The trained users could fly in that thing! Seeing clunky webapps with a bunch of clunky laggy UI components doesn't seem worth it for trained internal users

Everyone uses git as a centralized vcs. You could remove the distributed part and 99% of people wouldn't notice. The killer feature was branches, which are orthogonal
