of course even reading a thread on tinnitus makes mine worse. The mere fact of paying attention to it makes it worse, so I have a hard time seeing how a drug is going to help much. I do wish there was something. Ostensibly mine is from hi

I don't think you really deserved downvotes. Some people are more geared toward evangelizing technology (or evangelizing anything really), and some are not. I'm pretty much in the 'not' camp. I'll share my experie

They already do protect themselves. It’s what licensure is for in large part. I’m not saying licensure doesn’t have other benefits, many are plainly obvious. But licensure is also used as plain old gatekeepong.

I'm not knocking your project, but ghostty doesn't flicker for me on resize. Is this a common problem people have? My main complaint with ghostty is the crappy configuration.

Yes, and mac has various filters under accessibility for various types of colorblindness. I alternate between basically all of them at different times because none work for me in all situations. People are always sharing graphs or charts

Thanks for the recommendation. I tried it out as a colorblind person. I'm always looking for one of two things -- tools that will help me differentiate stuff I see on graphs and charts (endlessly frustrating) and tools that will let

As much as I love just about everything about Sando, he doesn’t hold a candle to Mark Twain. I think this is a recency bias in effect. But damn, Sanderson writes some great stories. Someone else brought up Spielberg and I think a pretty goo

What a dumb take. Apple is the most wildly successful company in the market. You think whatever pittance they get from this will outweigh the cost of stolen ip?

Basically nothing. I mean they’ll have to pay up but money clearly isn’t something OpenAI worries about. They’ll just raise more from the infinite vc money tree.

It’s interesting to me that people thought/think this was a good effect. I saw t2 in the theaters when it was released and I thought this was the phoniest effect of the movie. It was extremely cheesy, so clearly sitting on top of the a

Steam needs a statistic for Wine/crossover. I play tons of games on my mac via steam through crossover. It's crazy that multiple layers of translation work so well.

Anybody have an idea of what the flops per token generated is on a SOTA model like current GPT/OPUS? Is it basically the parameter count? So something like GLM-5.2 is, at a minimum, ~744 GFLOPs per token generated? Am I way off base?

The thing with language models is they are tailor made to fool managerial types into thinking it’s the holy grail. Just like many managers, the appearance of productivity is all that counts. And LLMs shine at giving the appearance of having

I know this is a topic de jour for submitters lately, but it seems weird for hacker news, a website for and by founders who primarily offer software-as-a-service. I also think it seems weird for a website whose patrons are seemingly predom

The shelf-life of a day is because of the abstract voting aspect. Old crappy forums used comments, vs an abstract notion, as a vote. This allowed for long running conversations. It did require stronger protections of posting rights though.

Is there something wrong with the m5s? I have an m4 pro and I’ve never heard the fan on it. I don’t do much with local llms, but I naturally use the web and play games (windows games at that with wine/crossover).
