That's like saying a programmer should just concentrate on programming instead of finding a good text editor.

I don't get it. The unit "calorie" already takes the different compositions of the food into account. It's simply a measure of how much energy a typical person's body will extract from that specific food. A sugar calorie is completely diffe

Huge success using the Hackers Diet (counting calories) here. Its online weight tracker is tops. Walker made the book available as an ePub earlier this year: perfect for the iPad. http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/

The best intro book for Rails should be Michael Hartl's ruby on rails tutorial. http://ruby.railstutorial.org/ruby-on-rails-tutorial-book

Exactly. Just think of all the robots and probes we could've created with the money spent on the shuttle program.

Seriously, reeder is already a great experience for me. My app use looks very similar to your screenshots, but with the typography of reeder already baked in. With just a click I can: take notes, pinboard an article (or any link in the arti

I have a great experience pointing Reeder at the hacker news rss feed. Its readability feature allows me to, with a click either parse the linked article into a nice looking format or read the HN comments.

We have our business website hosted out of the Amazon cloud. Our primary servers are actually located in their affected data center. But we also have a great data team behind it, so we aren't being (to the outside observer) affected at all

How about hover.com? Simply fantastic documentation and support. The phone number, should you call it, even connects to a real person.

Indeed. Paired with gnu screen and some bash scripts Terminal is very nice. I've got, for example, ctrl+a+t setup to trigger a script that opens a new screen tab, prompts for [user@]host:, starts up an ssh session to the host, renames the t

This will only backup the master (or any other specified) branch. I find it's better to just have a bare repo in dropbox added as a remote called "dropbox" and use: $ git push dropbox --all or $ git push dropbox --mirror

Very nice! I really dig the fact that you can share existing app layouts and that CMS content can be rendered as a regular Rails view.

Django strongly enforces MVC (MVT to be pedantic) programming. The templates and backend programming are kept not just at arms length, but in separate rooms.

The problem here is that the photographer lost data that he had no way of backing up. His photos are fine, his online collections, uris, and social networking are all gone and only existed on flickr's servers.
