If you want to go old school you can check out the Hacker's Diet (free online, and recently got an epub version): http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/ After a lifetime of thinking that diets had to be permanent and results were only possible

I'd love to be able to step through this graph year by year. An animation tracing each tornado would be fantastic too.

Heh, no worries. It just caught my eye (former WP dev). I'm actually really impressed with offerings like Octopress or, more Rails specific, Bloggy: http://www.engineyard.com/blog/2012/introducing-bloggy-a-sim... But, wow, that configurat

My schedule is similar, except our four year old is now totally in bed asleep around 8 - 8:30. Given that we wake up with the newborn around 4-6am that doesn't leave a big time window for getting sleep and hanging out with the wife and doin

Tip #1: don't have kids. They are awesome, but complete side-projects themselves and take up more time than a full-time job. :-) Tip #2: do something and blog about it. What worked, what didn't work, what tangents were useful? Post your upd

I haven't heard phrases like that since browsing book covers years ago. In large part -- although perhaps just online -- the programming community seems to have moved on from the "Hey, this is so easy! Buy my book!" phase. We now have tutor
