I don't think I could bring myself to extensive home automation installed by a previous owner, especially if there are cameras in the system. I have no way to know they're not maintaining access somehow without re-installing /

Perhaps the misconception is the idea that you could buy 10Y now and then sell them later for the same value if a better rate comes along, i.e, mistaking 10Y bonds for "cash" and not realising they can drop in value.

If you look at the stats about growth minus net migration in Australia, NZ, Canada, UK they all look pretty sad. UK is at the bottom of the list tho, if you think UK is high Australia's migration rate per 10k is DOUBLE that.

I think the article misses the mark by not highlighting the huge difference between say, construction / site welding and manufacturing welding. It's sort of a "category error" to lump all jobs together where you happen u

Powers will tend to declare their means of war legitimate and the means of war available to their enemies to be illegitimate. I think it's simplistic to declare our enemies "evil" because they're denied access (fortunate

I do agree lightweight cloud WAFs can have positive ROI. You have to be realistic about their capabilities however and what you can expect from a part-timer managing one. You end up choosing between a heavyweight "advanced" WAF (e

Look, if you want a "real" WAF capability you buy something like Imperva and manage the care and feeding of a team of say 2-4 ppl who understand web app vulnerabilities in depth, AND know the tool. Your SOC/NOC will need trai

It's not a lie! The WAF is there, it's attached and it does absolutely nothing with unmatched performance and scalability. We tell the auditor this. There's no audit checkbox for "WAF actually does something useful"

> People will stop deploying WAFs when the compliance standards are rewritten to not require them. Honestly AWS WAF is perfect for this. It's not a great WAF but it is ideal if you need "pretend to have a WAF" as a service

The article is focused almost entirely on personal drama and no attempt is really made to refute the central tenets of EA. I think a lot of people find the concept of EA morally threatening. Their natural reaction is to want to "take t

I did a double take also, the unit conversion is a bit confusing... 1 ppb is 1 nanogram per gram but there are 1000 grams in a litre so 1 ppb is actually 1 microgram per litre. So I still think that approx 20mg/L is the correct figure.

opi5 16gb is about 130 usd, rpi5 is about 80 usd I think? You get twice the cores and RAM so I think they're comparable value. But it's sort of academic for me because rpi5 8GB is not in stock in Australia.

There's a big difference though; startups are fueled by private money, from people who knew the risks. Public sector waste comes out of all our pockets and could have been allocated to welfare, teacher salaries or infrastructure.
