The moment someone wants to take the economic hit of a decade+ of performance progress. IOW, not gonna happen. I could see coprocessors becoming more popular though. We already have AES-NI, what if the sensitive keys never ended up in CPU c

Nintendo always does something that's JUST slightly off with their consoles that make them annoying as hell to use. With the switch it's the screwed up USB-C implementation and the fact that you can't use bluetooth headphones

The separation between a switch and a router is getting blurrier by the day, but any datacenter grade switch today will support L4 hashing for LACP. Even my el cheapo Mikrotik does.

Isn't NVIDIA's new firmware controller chip on their cards (the one that allows you to use the new open source linux drivers) RISC-V as well?

Pushing it to the kernel means you have to upgrade your kernel to use it. Instead, you can just include a library that exposes a send() and recv() style API to the main app code, while the library just throws everything into a UDP socket. S

To a certain extent, it's just enforcing what you have to do for correctness. If you have concurrency (even without parallelism), and objects are shared across contexts, you have to keep track of when objects are in use or not. The oth

If the fed did that, we'd be in a complete collapse. Worse than the depression. That's infinitely worse than 8% inflation.

This is a very common issue across all of software engineering I've found. But I really don't get why. If I was given the task of parsing Unicode or XML, I'd run and find a library as fast as possible, because that sounds ter

That usually is true if your electricity is generated by natural gas too and you're comparing it against a gas HWH Rough math is NG -> Electricty is 50% efficient thermally. A heat pump can have a COP of 4.2. 100 * .5 * 4.2 = 210% e

Keeping it simple to write a compiler is not a serious use case these days. People aren't bootstrapping new platforms from scratch. GCC and Clang are anything but simple.
