Just have an actual, good faith conversation with a real human working there instead of fighting/making assumptions about a strawman in your head.

I've hung out with this crowd and they are very idealistic, they care deeply about guardrails and safety, and definitely find the idea of handing the current administration AGI/ASI repulsive.

I wish people like you would actually talk to people at Anthropic, maybe interview with the company, actually engage with the real humans there before making blithe comments like this. Seriously, you're on HN, you can't possibly b

Well, I think a company that stood their ground knowing full well they'd be designated a SCR deserves the benefit of the doubt.

There is also: 3. Talent migration to Anthropic. No serious researcher working towards AGI will want it to be in the hands of OpenAI anymore. They are all asking themselves: "do I trust Sam or Dario more with AGI/ASI?" and ar

They "chose Grok" for political optics, but they don't seriously intend to use it because it's actually just benchmaxxed garbage - hence why they worked with OpenAI.

Incredible that California lawmakers choose to deliberately ignore the entire tech industry (that brings California its revenue.)

This is why the whole "LLMs for mass surveillance" thing is scary imo.

I wonder if the Anthropic can sue for financial damage when they inevitably win the SCR case (if Hegseth actually bothers to file it.) There are probably multiple lawsuits Anthropic can file: 1. Blatantly illegal SCR designation as a puniti

I am not saying that sharp and talented folks aren't born in the US. I am saying that our culture generally has resulted in fewer talented folks than the H1B population because we have a cultural focus on education. For example, it is

No offense but born-in-the-US citizens are... not great at the most demanding knowledge work. The ones that are have all been hired. Our education system is trash and normalizes getting Bs/Cs. I see so many people complaining about H1B

No, OpenAI has consented to "all legal use" whereas Anthropic required the redlines to be in the ToS itself, regardless of what's legal. So for all intents and purposes the DoD can simply ignore OAI's redlines.

This is one of the reasons Anthropic can stay competitive with OpenAI on a fraction of the budget and with less than half the headcount. The smartest people, that actually believe they have the skillset to take us to AGI, understand the imp

"All lawful use" is the weasel word that makes the whole contract useless for the purposes of safety. That is why it is the focus of this debate.

Psychopaths tend to be dumb (but not always), and the smartest researchers that actually care about getting humanity to AGI tend to be safety conscious. This has been a huge talent advertisement for Anthropic. Their recruiting just got easi

If you can get an offer at xAI you can get an offer anywhere. All the labs and top players will make you a millionaire in 3 years. xAI is a pure choice. Their people have the ability to work at Anthropic but choose xAI.

This feels kind of like a masterclass in negotiation. I suspect Dario just didn't get along with the DoW. Sam comes in, takes Anthropic's place, gets the same concessions. Hell, this may open a path for Anthropic to survive. Every
