Wow a lot of strong advice here. If he's your friend sit down and talk. This may have been a miscommunication. Just be up front and open about your concerns. Don't make any rash moves until you know what happened.

Yeah I find they're best kept small. I find them useful in managing GUI state. Some business logic gets a bit too complicated to nicely represent in a state machine.

State machines are amazing at keeping things well defined and simple. I love using them in code.

Having worked in Perl for years I agree that Perl is most often hard to read. I've also seen some horrific FP. Generally that's because it either FP stuffed into a language that doesn't support it or it's some crazy meta

Functional programming if done well is much better for maintenance. I find a strictly typed functional code base very easy to maintain. It's far less a house of card.

Sometimes it's best just to enjoy the fiction and not over think it too much. I think you have to give them some artistic license.

Of course, I'm sorry I forgot you are the source of all truth and all who disagree with you don't know anything about actual science. I thank you for my chastisement. I will commence with the self flagellation immediately.

I'm anti cancel culture and love free speech. I think they're doing a wonderful job. It's not full of racist content, that's a lie. Cloud flare is a fine option but I suspect they're after a more managed service. Ed

Try to find a new user of Perl that can understand this split /=/, $_, 2; So they don't and they look up the split function to find out. Okay now they have most of it from https://perldoc.perl.org/functions&#

I'd be tempted to try and get as simple a solution as possible. Have you looked at Rumble? They have a $100 per month option that should more than cover your needs. While they have a 4TB transfer limit I think they have options to exte

You are totally correct. The problem goes both ways. One camp will say there is significant disagreement on this issue therefore we need to act in a certain way. While the other side will say the scientists all agree so we have to act anoth

I'm always skeptical when people say x% of scientists agree or disagree with a given hypothesis. Most of the time these numbers are flat out wrong or misleading. Most scientists have very complex views on their own domain. Those comple

To me it seems that the simpler option is to run VLC directly connected to the tv. Streaming is seamless now and Emby makes it easy but why have all that complexity involved when you can just play in VLC and get a better quality video?

I don't think 100% nuclear is the solution and long term renewables are a far better option. Mid term nuclear has a place.

I think we're talking about different scales. Yes we haven't seen world wide nuclear but we have seen large cities worth of power. I think if we had that demonstrated with renewable storage it would look much better on paper.

I think one of the problems is we need proof at scale. Yes there are many theoretical ways to store energy for the grid but until we see a reasonable implementation it's a hard argument to sell.

There is also a bare minimum of manners for polite conversation. I for one prefer when people act politely here. HN is one of the few places online that's normally civil in the comments section.
