Personally I believe this sort of post is lacking real data: true the mentioned user only has 6 tabs in Safari, but what about other apps? How many other apps are running at the background? I mentioned those because last week I forgot my ch

I definitely agree! While I was reading about Rust couple of weeks ago I was thinking maybe exposing the compiler's detail would help refactoring and diagnosing bugs here. It's so awesome that you guys have already think of this!

I actually agree, it's not that hard, yes one can definitely grasp that with some efforts. But my point really is: the time from start learning Rust till when you can deliver your project is definitely longer than many other languages

I might be wrong but one possible explanation is that the language is so hard to learn that people would need tools to help in the beginning. Within Mozilla, they can use servo as a selling point or turn to creators for help, but from the o

I wish we could have a web assembly backend for tcc. Emscripten is awesome indeed, but having a lightweight C compiler allows for many possibilities, such as online compilation within the browser. If only I had enought time I would try doin

While I do agree that six month is not quite long, there's another issue: in the RFC PR, most of discussions took place before Mar 27, which is 10 days after when the RFC was submitted. Then there were a few comments on on Apr 28, and

Thanks for this! Really awesome stuff! One question here: how tight the compiler is binded to OCaml semantics? Besides Reason, do you think it's possible to build a frontend for other languages and integrate the backend of BuckleScript

Honestly I think unit tests and interactive debuggers are really for different purposes: unit tests are more used to guard existing code that has been written, while a debugger can be more useful tinkering with new libraries before writing

I agree, it's essentially an inline assembler, but the fact that it integrates so well with SBCL tells us that the SBCL team really did an awesome job here.

This is actually one example I'd like to refer to when people are talking that alternative languages with macros can achieve Lisp's flexibility: https://www.pvk.ca/Blog/2014/08/16/how-to-define-

An interesting case for #3, is that something similar exists in the Ruby world( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hfMUP5iTq8 ), but I don't think it's gaining wide adoption, there're certainly people using it bu

I dunno, I think what you are describing is a practical stack, not a minimal one. For me, a minimal stack is just an HTML file(possible with a JS file as well) that loads React and Firebase via CDN, and then relies on browser's shipped

I'm not sure how practical this can be, one advantage of having an RPC, is that it allows for cross-language communication. In this case, won't it be nicer to invest in a rust port of grpc instead of building this?

Totally agree, to me Github and Gitlab are so similar that there really is no point in arguing which one to use, just pick either one and you should be okay. On the other hand, Phabricator is a solution that contains a much more variety of

To me, the difference between GCE and AWS really has to do with "openness": while I do admit GCE machines can be faster and cheaper, you only feel like you are treated somewhat equally as the big corps when using AWS. For example,

Not an expert here so I might be wrong, but I've been reading about Framework7( http://framework7.io/ ) lately, which uses both virtual list and native scrolling. So maybe you might not have to implement custom scrolling

To develop things like Chrome, a mac won't be enough as well. Chances are you will need a powerful desktop beast anyway, in this case, a Chromebook can be a super handy addition for checking emails, browsing the Internet, not to mentio

I know the authors of this project also read Hacker News, so it probably is better if we wait till them to state their motives. But I suppose I could give a brief first, since most of the confusing comments are due to language barriers(sorr
