I strongly relate with this article. Being also in my 40s (but married with no kids) I am at a point in life where I am almost financially independent. I've got a bunch of equity from good startups (which will likely exit in the next y

Interesting that Mastodon's [Back] button triggers a javascript:back event, so it takes me back to this forum. I don't know if in 2022 that is the expected behaviour haha.

Just today I paid for a domain name in name.com. As part of the package, they sold me a hosted & managed WordPress installation for $60 USD a year. I was positively impressed (last time I setup a WP server I paid $5 a month for Digital

This is way far away from your specific question, but I've had a similar situation to yours (travelling constantly between cities). What has worked for me (staying a couple of months within citiies) is to "buy" good used moni

There are real complexities in designing a survey right. As you say, it's a subject of multiple books and even PhD dissertations. I worked for 4 years with a team of mainly social scientists (agricultural economists, rural development

I'm 40 myself. I also came here from Slahdot. What attracted me to HN was that /. culture at the time (during 2000s) was VERY pro open source. In my youth I was a fierce OS advocate, including founding a LUG and whatnot. Reading

So what? It is raising some interesting points in a decent way and developing discussion. There are points that make more sense to me than others, and I dont share their conclusions. But I appreciate the discussion it raises. Americans

Say you publish a song and copyright it. Then I record it and save it in a .xz format. It's not an MP3, it is not an audio file. Say I split it into N several chunks and I share it with N different people. Or with the same people,

I've been a happy Linux Mint users for a long time. The day they decide to "downgrade" to Snap, is the day I'm going to Debian o whatever is in vogue and user friendly at that time.

holy mother of god! I used C++ around 2000 for some old projects. When new and delete where the object oriented "equivalent" for malloc() and free(). So, if you don't use that, what do you use in 2022 C++?

My contact with assembly was during the 90s. I wanted to do cracks and keygens like the ones I saw cool groups like The Phrozen Crew and similar. I learned to use SoftIce, IDA, W32dasm and later OllyDBG to step through assembler code. I

This post is so entitled. It's 2022 and I am using a Samsung A8 phone from 2018 which is pretty good and perfect size for me, thank you very much. Not everyone makes $450,000 USD a year and can change phone every month, I am sorry.
