Why would anybody use the Outlook app on iOS as opposed to the built-in one?

Thanks! I was planning to reach out to the folks at SIGCIS already :) As for your point about specific features, I plan to treat this as a STS-esque project. TLDR: de-emphasize linear models of technology development. Besides, I feel that t

Can I have your email if that’s okay with you? Or you can drop me a line (rk@rishav.io) and I’ll reach out to you within a couple of days. Thanks a bunch!

You’re correct, but I expect that the need to invent those features arose with limitations in existing systems (those that were just plain text content or non-web, as you say).

I’m tentatively looking to begin with BBS (potentially CompuServe), but I’m willing to go back as far as needed to paint a comprehensive picture. This is also one of the bits I’m having difficulty with — what was it like to actually use t

I’m somewhat familiar with how git works. In my understanding, a commit is just a blob combining the commit information and a tree blob, hashing them together to create a commit id. This design doesn’t preclude the usage of additional infor

I feel the commit data could be extended to include some metadata that isn’t used to compute the hash. GitHub could then make use of this data to populate whatever. (Not sure if such a field already exists in the commit blob)

The Gaussian would be a more natural way to model latency variation IMO.

Fair argument but I don’t see why training should inherently be unpaid. In fact, I don’t see why the ability to have a good standard of living should be predicated on your profession in the first place. The fact that engineering training is

Whoa that’s a cool trick! It’s important to note, however, that sshfs has been archived by its creator. What this entails with regard to the future of the project is uncertain though.

I think it’s certainly a myth that an engineer’s profession is “inherently harder” than a coffee brewers. In my opinion, people who would like to study engineering would do so not so because of what they are paid (the situation today), but

This is more on the banal side, but I just interned at a place with some weird restrictions — Windows machines, you have to remote into them if you want to WFH… stuff that really hampers my productivity. I’m going to get this stuff sorted o

fwiw: the App Store also prohibits JITed code or in general code pulled in after app publishing. I guess the idea is that (at least in theory) that Apple sees all code that an app runs.

I’m primarily a Python dev but I’ve been recently working on a React codebase. One of the things that’s been driving me insane is how the default way to import things is without a namespace, aka: `import {foo} from ‘bar’;` This makes readin

Could you elaborate on where the btrfs snapshots come into play? I use rsnapshot on a plain ext4 fs and it’s pretty slow (lots of small files).

You can statically link LLVM, no problem. In fact, you never have to call any binaries specifically; just do it through code and everything should link at compile-time and become one big binary.

FWIW, Ctrl+D is not "magic". It works because Ctrl+D is EOF. Applications that read input should expect that the input is done when they encounter EOF.
