I take it you mean easily unlockable bootloader, not really out-of-the-box root access which no phone have. I have taken the opposite stance on that. Never again will they be left with some Samsung bloatware which hardly receives any Androi

That doesn't make sense with the common use of the word. Autocracy is a much wider term than a militia style dictatorship, and is mostly used in the context of democracy. Most, if not all, autocrats are democratically elected (with s

Moving employee jurisdiction to suit the incoming administration is hardly the same as a warm greeting though, is it? In my country we have a different word for people giving large sums of money as gifts to incoming politicians, yet we seld

It is, and from experience it is also a good example how control loops are harder than you think. Few people understand it, and it is the source of much underlying trouble.

The term "stability" should not be used outside of the major Linux distributions such as Debian and Fedora. For a distribution to be stable over the long term it needs a large enough community, a stable governance model, and a rea

There's nothing to it, it's just "git commit". You then add your changes and "git commit --amend". (These could be aliases. Mine are "ci" and "ca" respectively.)

> Jenkins shouldn’t be near production All of which sounds completely reasonable to me, in many situations. Jenkins is the Wordpress of software development. It's gigantic state loop that runs plugins with no privilege separation. G

I found that the commit log made auditing on- and offboarding easier, not harder. Of course it won't help you if your process is dysfunctional. You still have to trigger the process somehow, which can be a problem in itself when growin

Why do think that? I did something similar at a previous work for something bordering on 1k employees. User administration was done by modifying a yaml file in git. Nothing bad to say about it really. It sure beats point-and-click Active Di

There is a large gap between "own the hardware" and "use cloud hosting". Many people rent the hardware, for example, and you can use managed databases which is one step up than "starting a vm". But your compari

I believe what you describe is something very close to Firefox. Enabling uBlock is down to a few clicks, but that does not seem to have helped Firefox gain massive popularity.

It should be straight up illegal to share my data with third parties. That's not something I as an end user should be forced to opt in to. A browser level opt-in would be even more useless than a website prompt. Demonstrably almost no

When you think about it, this behaviour makes sense. How else would you implement it? I/O is always block oriented. The reason you don't always notice is that UNIX is so dearly line-based that every layer of the software stack goe

"Prevents tampering" lacks specificity. git is a blockchain that prevents tampering in some aspects, but you can still force push if you have that privilege. What is important is understand what the guarantees are.

From my experience it is obviously the latter. Reading well, on paper or on screen, really requires you to put your complete attention to it. Audio (podcasts) and video (youtube) have the advantage of not requiring your complete attention.

But you don't "manage your own hardware" if you are renting VMs, which was the question here. Also managing a cloud infrastructure is a lot more complex than running Debian and Ansible on a VM.

A book from 2017? Is that still relevant to understand a modern Kubernetes cluster? The CNCF ecosystem looked a lot different back then.
