As an engineer myself (EE) I disagree completely with OP. Engineering is mostly about making tradeoffs. It’s not that software does things different that other engineering fields, it’s just that it faces different cost structures. Bridges,

While I’m sure it works for the OP, I’m guessing most other options would work. My take is that this approach just moves the discussion to what qualifies as “fun money” or should come out of the shared account. Maybe it’s because we are too

Yes, because that never goes wrong... Maybe it’s because I’m a hardware guy, but if anything, agile has normalized a lot of bad practices (like developing before getting any specs) that can only be made to work in software development.

If there’s journals that only publish interesting results, these get more attention. Researchers trying to score points aim to be published by these. This gives them incentives to try new stuff, disregard boring results (like negative resul

Content generation can be automated if you know what you are doing. Also, it’s not only about content but about proper timing and strategy in your communications.

What I’m wondering is how many of those people complaining on the Twitterverse did so while driving or otherwise putting others at risk. We live to think we’d do otherwise, but if we are honest with ourselves, we know we’d do the same..

>Professional setup has much tighter tolerance than 3dB. To comply with CISPR (as an example), a lab only has to validate <4.5dB (in the 30 MHz to 300 MHz range), and up to 5.2 dB (from 30 MHz to 1 GHz). See for instance [1]. By the w

The problem is that even with a professional setup you should expect about +/-3dB tolerances. Since there’s no expectation of that uncertainty being systematic, taking a relative change pushes your error bars +3dB. That 6dB drop is und

Yes, I got that, but if you are closing a design loop around a noisy, bad aimed target, you'll get worse results.

While it's a nice hack, the problem with the EM certification world (and why it's so expensive) is not about the devices themselves but about calibration and measurement stability. Most EE will be able to guess the patterns this s

You do realize that covering 10% of the planet in solar panels is the start of a Dyson sphere right? Just push it up to 100% and start adding "fake" planets until a sphere is formed. :) Jokes aside, "A truly advanced civiliza
