Just checking: is it supposed to look like this? http://i.imgur.com/PWbZHW5.png The color is totally fine, it's really just that sidebar that's odd.

If enough people agree, does that make the phrase autological...?

I like this idea, but I wonder about the phrasing. I wouldn't want my more... loquacious colleagues to misinterpret it as an imperative ("please do not send me a wall of text").

I know it's shallow, but I've been doing the same thing.

This is just some random guy promoting his "glass-apps" site. No Google conspiracy here.

The fucker being referred to here is the research topic, not the neuroscientist: > After Salimpoor had the car epiphany, she rushed home to her computer and Googled “music and the brain.”

Having experienced this at a previous job I can only agree (and sympathize). I hope your future employer respects you and trusts you to use your own time effectively.

It's really about the character of those things rather than the things themselves. Any company can just buy an Xbox or a ping-pong table, whereas the particular selection of music or friendly banter in the chat helps define the unique cultu

That was needlessly hostile, IMO.

I think we just have different expectations. I see HN as a YC-hosted water cooler - nothing more. It's not important to me that it be bug-free or fast or even up all the time. YMMV.

That doesn't sound trivial to me. Many would just use a client/extension that doesn't render said obvious ads. On the other hand, that is the status quo of the web (cf. AdBlock) and it mostly works.

At least you have the Gmail address you want. My desired username is in a "reserved" state, or something, in that it's linked to my account under "other usernames", and I can log in with it, but I can't create a Gmail account for it. This a

Thanks for explaining this. Now I understand what the index 1ef56e5..2c756d0 in a diff refers to. I'm now poking around in the object store with `git cat-file -p <hash>` and it's very enlightening.

I love how downvoting backfires here and ends up visually emphasizing the link. Until the CSS is fixed you could do something like: http://eat-it-downvoters-you-cant-silence.me

This post really resonated with me. As you implied, it's really not an anti-mainstream thing. I completely understand why publishers want to sell CoD 143. There are also people like me who would rather play Star Citizen. With crowdfunding w

Just playing devil's advocate here: a truly evil attacker could use the access logs from all the apps phoning home to build a list of vulnerable targets! :)

After experiencing the wall of well-intentioned garbage that is php.net I no longer like comments in docs. Those examples and clarifications of edge cases should be in the documentation itself.

The yen has no fractional units (anymore), so when I added support for that currency but continued to use the same format string as all the others, prices like ¥1000.00 looked unnatural.

Such vitriol! Can your currency code handle sea shells? It should! :) I only mention it because the yen thing surprised me once as a newbie programmer. (A tip: "%0.2f" is no substitute for actual i18n.) It never hurts to be aware of the edg

So s/cent/atomic subunit/, because "for money, work in cents" is meaningless for yen and ambiguous for Bitcoin ("bitcents" or "satoshis"?)
