Do you have a source for this quote? Googling just returns this page. I was particularly struck by: > if I ever get cancer, I will refuse chemo and let myself die And figured this quote must be at least 20 or 30 years ago? Cancer isn

Okay, I guess this is also a consequence of having long lived branches that multiple people contribute to versus short-lived continuous integration into main. I can also see value there if you're not squashing commits at the PR level.

My point is that I don't understand where the driving force for desiring to change it at all is coming from.

OK, I don't get it. There's lots of praise for this though so I must be missing something that lots of other people get value from, so perhaps someone could be kind enough to explain where's the benefit to this? I'm fine

It wasn't just Stalinism, it was wider totalitarianism too, but that wasn't the point I was making, it wasn't a critique directed against the state of the UK at the time, but what it could become.

Yes, but Orwell wasn't really writing _about_ the UK, you need to look at the context and background of the work, which is the rise of Stalinism and the fear of that brand of totalitarianism taking over.

By that argument, 100% is also a factor, but you wouldn't interpret "100% cost increase" as an unchanged cost, so a 10x price shouldn't be described as a "1000% cost increase".

It does seem expensive, but if it wasn't, then there'd be more temptation to simply white-label Kagi via it's own API while undercutting Kagi's own plans.

I know this isn't really about Snake, but this implementation of snake is frustrating to play because: 1. It doesn't buffer inputs. If you are travelling Left and quickly tap Up then Left, it'll treat it as a no-op instead of

Some argue that's how taxes work already. Taxation destroys money, government spending creates money. MMT (modern monetary theory) argues that taxation isn't about "funding", it's actually about controlling inflatio

A hundred years ago you could say the same about the Bloomsbury Group. I don't know what causes such intellectual cliques to form, perhaps it's a result of an intersection of raw intellectual power and social dynamics.

It's a bit philosophical, but I'm not sure you can really execute the same steps twice. A cycle would imply you can get stuck baking something forever. When you come back to do the "same" operation again, you're fun

From a slightly pedantic point of view that misses the point of cooking or baking, I disagree about the ability to re-use nodes. If you have a recipe that uses 150g flour in step 1, then later uses 350g flour in step 4, then you actually ha

UK building codes (we call them building regulations) should also have prevented Grenfell. A large issue was that the companies involved were using materials which weren't up to code.

Those are very valid but separate concerns. You can make social media illegal for under 16s without requiring online age validation. After all, a form of this already exists with the US COPPA [1] law, and the presence of that law hasn'
