I didn't expect to read "Datacenters in space" on HN.

That's not my point. Rather that any self-hosted solution would. Encryption is completely optional and can be illegal in some places. As long as you trust the endpoint you only care about encryption in transit. If your devices are seiz

Encryption in this case is irrelevant. If they get the encrypted backup they can already charge you if you don't decrypt it. Self-hosting is the way obviously

What's the difference between this and wiping when under duress using the special PIN? If you aren't being checked you don't wipe and are gopd to go.

What am I misinterpreting? OP literally said they don't understand why a journalist would carry these data with them. As if the data is a file on your phone. Data can be a contact book on your phone, or a messenger with E2E encrypted m

So delete messengers, email apps and other comms? Delete the contact book? Clear calendars? Where exactly should one stop?

My thoughts exactly, but to train it you'd need a lot of data with someone manually operating it. With just two hands it's enough to have a lot of footage of humans doing it. Maybe down the line the robots will be able to self-imp

Yeah I don't understand why people jumped on this. Thread-OP was saying pretty obvious if not trivial things. Without knowing how much they spend knowing how much they earn is a useless data point.

Sure, but this is only as useful as useless it is. Meaning the moment this gets wide adoption AI will have 0 issues dealing with it. LLMs are very good at translating one language to another.

I disagree with your definition of what 'growing up' is about. There is something lost in the world where making silly but fun things is frowned upon. And yes, fun is subjective. I don't share my kids excitement about most th

If you are at all serious about security you don't consider Windows. Depending on how serious you are you also don't consider MacOS. And then you kinda have a couple of things to chose from but ultimately you need to build your ow

Government funding is another way. In some countries people pay some sort of "media" tax. That can be redistributed. A new one can be added. If LLMs are becoming a standard way to interact and process the data and using them is a

I wonder when, if ever, we will hit a productivity plateau with LLM-assisted development. Right now, it feels like we're at a crossroads, and if we don't build the correct culture around this, things can go very wrong.

In combination with Google stance on what people call "sideloading", this is a serious concern for privacy. I can keep my privacy just as well without Signal if I can't talk to anyone.

No one is in a position to dictate individual people what their goals are. That's another example of entitlement. As an individual author they are entitled to write whatever they want in their blogpost. I as a consumer of their writing

Exactly. Especially now in the era of LLMs where you can feed the article to a chatbot and ask it to spoon feed you at the pace you can digest at.

Why should the author care to make it digestible to the crowd who is clueless on the matter? Their goal is to capture attention and start discussion within the community. To me it doesn't seem reasonable at all. It's just entitled

Yeah, this is the extension of the above. Main reason tabbed windows ditched the title bar in favor of having tabs integrated into it. Unfortunately people who design UI or produce specs are not power users so the end products have been los
