Can you, please, describe, why do you think that Genera was superior to Smalltalk? I never had the opportunity to test it for real; however, I checked a lot of materials about Genera, and my impressions were the opposite. So I would really

A good trade-off is to have a prototype-based object system but use it as a class-based system. You can benefit from a rigid system structure, and organization like Smalltalk has (it is easier to make good tools for it) but use prototype-ba

Some time ago, I saw an article that described a very crazy hypothetical architecture that still fits the C standard and uses the undefined behaviors in various insane ways. It was named like "Computer platform from hell" or so. U

It uses the fusion of the IDE and the program you develop. You have vast possibilities of objects visualizations (inside a debugger or in separate windows), you can select some part of the code inside the debugger and let run it in separate

Moreover, it is much safer to start to learn a new language/environment if you can immediately try it for free and not invest first into an expensive implementation.

Nice project. Are you aware of Hobbes (Highly Objectified Blue Book Equivalent Smalltalk) that is able to run Smalltalk-80 V2 images? The Squeak/Pharo version has, however, not working file access needed for sources access.

Lack of popularity of these systems has often different reasons than the technical aspects but your comment sounded like the judgment of someone who dismisses some technology as second-rate just because it is not popular.

Sorry, all these articles are from a single person with the messianic syndrome who named himself "Mr Smalltalk". He absolutely rejects any complaints about his activities (he repeatedly told us that we do not understand marketing)

Really? If you would try to do an effective Smalltalk implementation in WebAssembly, you would immediately see that WebAssembly is making things even much worse.

for Smalltalk, the list is not complete, it has scalled decimals and fractions too: 0.1s + 0.2s = 0.3s . (1/10) + (2/10) = (3/10)

You can have the best of both worlds. In some Smalltalks (like Pharo), the image is bootstrapped from the source code but you can still use image persistency.

I do not think the article provides the correct explanation. I'm sure, most of the readers do not use Smalltalk, and they have their own (straightforward) reasons for that. Most probably, why should they care about an old, outmoded, st
