Building cars inside a tent proves a lack of commitment to build quality that is going to affect all their cars, not just the tent ones.

Reliability comes from pretty well known manufacturing principles at this point. Things like six sigma, continuous improvement, and the Toyota Production System are taught at every B-school in the country for a reason. Tesla actively flaunt

Why? Why isn't more public transit, which in ever study is massively more greenhouse gas efficient than electric cars and is also already an existing and proven technology a better option? Why aren't plugin hybrids a better option

Also, the idea that "electric cars the solution" is a specious claim. Buses, trains, etc, are still far more efficient in greenhouse emissions standards than a culture that encourages everyone to have a personal car. It's not

How is "problems in the first three months of ownership" not a good judge of "Initial Quality"?

Not really. The money didn't come with that restrictions. Later lawsuits created those.

Yeah, this is a comparison of 2020 models too, so literally all of them have that.

The majority of problems mentioned in the article are not gizmos, but things that exist on every car. Brake pads, seats not fitting, panel gaps causing leaks. Given Tesla's manufacturing process it seems utterly predictable that they w

JD Power is the most respected survey in the business. It's pretty undeniable to argue that Tesla has more production issues than just about every other automaker on the planet. Elon's idea to increase Model 3 production, by... ma

Yes, but in the case of issuance of new shares they aren’t. Stock based compensation adds to the market cap but not to the stock price. Same with acquisitions done in stock. You could merge your company with another company the same value a

Because valuations should be debated? How else is anyone going to come to a good judgement?

You do realize that when Tesla was valued at $300 in 2017, the projections for its revenue for 2020 were $38 billion and profit of $5 billion? They aren’t even going to reach a light year from that, yet the stock is supposedly now $1000.

Yeah, and Tesla is not Amazon. Not in any way, shape or form. Amazon is a unique success because it is unique. Tesla is a 15 year unprofitable car maker that has never met its projections or expectations on future profit or revenue.

It is insane to set market cap goals instead of share price goals. The market cap of Tesla can go up without ever benefitting shareholders.

You think Tesla will be a $4 trillion market cap company in 4 years? Do you have any idea how crazy that valuation idea is?

Market cap is just a reflection of the total value of shares, enterprise value is a greater reflection of the perception of future cash flows, since it includes debt in the calculation. Basically, Toyota has more debt, therefore its future

That's not the question though. Even if you believe EVs are the future, you still have to convince people that Toyota can't make them.

I mean, market cap is probably better than most as a metric for valuing companies. If it wasn't, you could make a killing in the stock market by finding companies that are off-base of their value.

They already have some of the worst resale values in the business. Driven by a huge number of price cuts they've done to their current models. Why buy a used Tesla when prices have dropped on new Teslas?

Future Earnings + Current net assets. I have a hard time seeing how future earnings of Tesla even exceeds the liquidation value of Toyota, given the stock has never made earnings a year in its life.

This has been common across all the markets that Tesla is a part of. Norway, which used to be Tesla's second largest market, has had Tesla's brand perception fall precipitously. https://thenextweb.com/cars/202
