It also depends on your investment timeline here. Facebook and other social media properties have historically traded at super low multiples compared to other companies with similar growth/profits. Facebook is trading at 15x it's

Does Coca-Cola suck? They spend billions a year on advertising. Demand for different products is generated very differently depending on the product. Some things travel by word of mouth, some things don't.

You do realize that they are booking billions in ad revenue, right? All that user attention is hella valuable space.

Probably the best tech acquisition of all time. It's either that or YouTube. I guess you could argue for Apple acquiring NeXT, but that's an acquisition that isn't really able to be measured in the same way.

Photography has been a huge hobby for decades. Is the fact that it is so much more accessible now really mean that the entire basis is proving your experiences were amazing rather than experiencing them? 10 years ago, no one every would hav

Why do pictures depress you so much? Honestly, I think if that's the case, it says that you have some unresolved issues you probably should deal with. Part of what makes social media seem depressing is your attitude with it.

Exactly. To be honest Instagram's hypergrowth probably couldn't have been sustained if the company didn't end up getting access to some of Facebook's engineering talent and hiring pipeline. Having 11 people try to manage

Is Snapchat the best example? Snapchat is getting killed. Also, as it was made that Instagram only had 7 employees when they were purchased, that's actually one of major reasons why the acquisition worked so well. 7 employees for an ap

I remember getting an advertisement for a pot shop three blocks away from me two hours before my Thanksgiving dinner. That one felt a little too real.

I honestly feel stories are probably one of the biggest drivers of current growth. It's kind of cool to have a easy way to scroll through my friends and get an update of "oh, I guess Jeremy went on a hike; Monica is harvesting bla

Yeah, I think given their UI/model it is pretty difficult to have any long form discussion on Instagram. The "news" part of the newsfeed as always been FB's killer app. Or at least that and event planning, though I think

The fund of funds index that Ted Seides put in already takes into account management fees -- it's what the investor will actually return. And I do think it's necessary to put this bet into context, because the ultimate question it

That depends on if you mean securities or corporations. ETFs aren't counted as companies, and there is a hell of alot more of them than corporations.

That doesn't scale nearly to the $20 billion they were bought at. Yelp, which has a similar business model to what you quoted, and is more essential to businesses than WhatsApp, only has a market cap of $3.6 billion.
