Where do you get the data to make the claim about the first generation immigrants. People like Sam Altman were born in Chicago. A great deal of AI research began in the US in the 1970s. What have the US colleges been doing since then?

Didn't they just layoff a number of people? Surely there are some good, local talent that were once good enough for Google. Why ask to import more when you're laying off people?

It's a bit unfair to talk about the garages in Palo Alto being attached to "multi-million-dollar" houses. When the people starting Apple, HP, Google and Facebook took over a garage, the places were solidly middle class. Even

It could be the opposite. Ford, Rivian and other third parties will be building to this standard. Tesla no longer needs to jump start the marketplace, so to speak.

No. Copyright gives the right to control how a work is reproduced. In the case of printed books, we've arrived on the first sale doctrine which still does a pretty good job of spreading costs over all users. It's not perfect, but

Do you think the authors and editors should be compensated for their work? Charging for use seems to be a pretty straight forward way to reward the people who create good books.

While I also agree that there are downsides to keeping the exchange constantly churning, I worry that it's hard to align the open moments with the times when market-shifting news arrives. We can't expect the Bhopal plant to explod

This is all good news, I suppose, but I think that if it were widely adopted the system would fail. I doubt the libraries pay enough to support the news rooms if everyone tossed aside their subscriptions and started using the library's

It's pretty impressive what you can buy on eBay with the words "CVD Diamond" in the title. As best as I can tell, they're chemically identical. (Modulo honesty on eBay, of course.)

How do you handle companies like AMZN where Jeff Bezos still plays a role. Yes, he seems to be busy doing other things but he does seem to have a role. And the founders at all of these companies are still doing things. Even Bill Gates has s

Would it be fair to say that companies like AMZN or GOOG have "employee ownership" because of the stock options? If so, it means many tech companies meet this definition.

I think the point is that some automated systems like Canvas may hide the names, but they're still presented in alphabetical order. Pseudonyms don't help if you don't shuffle them.

I'm psyched to see the market evolve in this way. All you need to do is look under the hood of an ICE car and you'll understand that electric cars can be dramatically cheaper than ICE cars. It's just a question of figuring ou
