I retired my thunderbolt display and my new one doesn’t even come close. Something is always broken and I have to fiddle with it. I get no video on cold boots and type in my WDE password to a blank screen.

I think regulators are overreacting - its a feel good PR move. I require straws and paper straws are total garbage. It's an insult. And no, I am not going to carry a straw in my pocket.

I certainly know better than Google maps in my area - but I think most Uber and Lyft drivers just follow what their display tells them. If I were a driver I'd be afraid of giving someone the opportunity to complain.

I think as our sector matures its more about emotional intelligence, and less about technical aptitude. I can’t help but think leetcode is a echo chamber. I personally disagree with this approach, I’ve met a few folks who think the CLI is u

I personally feel that driver assistance systems (unrelated to red lights) provide a substantial increase in driver safety over revenue generating traffic camera systems. Red light cameras increase accidents[0], and currently only serve to

The worst part about any job is politics, the extremely competitive nature of Googlers makes it a less than fun place to work.

I believe fear mongering has substantial long term negative mental health effects - something I hope will be addressed in my lifetime.

Ads are also for branding. Ferrari is selling an instantly recognizable status symbol. Their ads reinforce conspicuous consumption.

Ad targeting is intentionally fuzzy to avoid creeping you out. Companies like Acxiom have an incredible amount of data on you. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kashmirhill/2012/02/16/how-targ...

All the time. We have an IRC server at work, but it's less popular than Slack unfortunately.

I'm sure every generation says it - but working in tech and being a staunch advocate of privacy I can't help but think it really is different this time. If my thoughts as a kid had been subject to outside scrutiny I don't kno

I crave isolation - remote work is perfect for me. I detest offices: stinky lunches, music, mastication noises, and too many snacks. Not everyone is the same.

Mozilla's #1 priority is not to piss off Google, so I'm sure there was a conversation before this happened. Besides, when it comes to money, Google profits many times over whatever payout they give Mozilla.
