Can you actually have a faster system with hardware checks compared to what we can do with x86 with all security checks in software? If not, I don't see the point. Noone is going to buy slower hardware that runs the same safe language(

Is there an easy way to import rust data types into passerine(maybe via some derive macro)? I understand the author is exploring the PL design space, but for an embeddable language a good interop story is what sets them apart.

If you are talking about end user software, you can just depend on platform dotnet and just ship your library/executables. For server software 60mb is not much when you see most people ship gigabytes of docker containers for os runtime

Consider adding your code directory to exclusions list for windows defender, if you haven't done so already. File metadata related operations are slower on windows, so it definitely feels worse with git.

All haskell threads are cancellable. This does mean you have to take extra care when using certain constructs.

Nobody cares if any of those are exploitable, but browsers are literally the os for a lot of people and needs to be secure.

I doubt many people who are in Ocaml camp see F# as more natural choice. Multicore is a nice to have thing, but it isn't a dealbreaker, see python, nodejs. Depending on your domain, ocaml ecosystem can be way more mature.

Yeah considering it doesn't work on windows, the more general tool nix, which has good integration with direnv works very well.

You vastly underestimate efficient implementation of simulating and rendering so many entities at the same time. A lot of big name games crawl if there are 50 units doing their thing.

Unless you are talking about very stable countries(where this is not even an issue to begin with), we have already seen a few(russia, india etc) doing this without a second thought, not just china. The damage can be attributed to someone el

Governments can easily block AWS as well and they have. Even simpler, they just go for the kill-switch and kill internet.

Ocaml is a moving target, new features are added. Bucklescript was 4.02 for a long time before moving to 4.06. It is unclear what the current status of Rescript is.

You have to write binding glue code. Last i saw reason also required binding code to work. Here is a react binding for jsoo: https://github.com/jchavarri/jsoo-react .

Sorry to say, it's not. F# is nowhere near the wonderful type-sytem of Ocaml(although it's intentional). I would stick with js_of_ocaml for my js needs.

Moreover it's hard to figure out which Ocaml version is Rescript on? Last i checked it was on 4.06, Do they backport any features, bugfixes? Now it seems like it's a complete fork with a new syntax. Maybe it serves the interest of

He talks about having swift compiler engineers in team. Was swift not opensource back then, so they could optimize the compiler for size instead of reordering optimization passes using simulated annealing?

As always the problem is the specification. Once you sit down and write the formal specification, suddenly the implementation becomes much clearer.

Expecting open source developers to write a well-tested proprietary SDK for a vendor is going to be hard ask. If you need that and unwilling to do/fund the work yourself, just stick with vendor supported languages.

You are pretending that apps don't do any of that? The only difference is you have control over your browser(you can filter tracking sites etc) but for an app you have none.

Same thing happened in Ocaml land w.r.t. async vs lwt. Not sure what the current situation is but people had to abstract their libraries and do 2 implementations to support them.

Well, the trick is to ship your own libpng/libvorbis linked dynamically. So you only update a tiny library than half a gigabyte executable when you need a security fix. You also don't depend on the distro to provide the library. I
