Compiling a project with right incantation of flags is not rocket science but it is time consuming that a build system should be better equipped to do. Interactive development has immense benefits in exploring apis for experts and learning

Would like to clarify that it's not about "syntactical sugar" more like different semantics and/or safety(they treat js as machine code), hardly anyone would claim they are using these languages because of js syntax.

And rust binaries all link the rust libs statically(you can change linking), maybe because it is easier to distribute static binaries that work everywhere than to distribute a bunch of libraries without official channel(your os distribution

The parent question was 15min quick start to emacs, not learn niche usage like reading email, irc etc. You can use spacemacs for a lot of languages with good support, if you are only familiar with vim keybindings.

If you know vim keybindings you can already use emacs with evil. Just install spacemacs and off you go.

zero-overhead abstraction is also C++'s primary goal. In what way it's mixed bag that is not the same in rust? Rust is basically C++ with lifetimes and a cleaner type-system.

https://github.com/webrecorder/warcio - python library. Tooling is not the best, which is precisely why anybody would bother paying for their service. You can do lots of fancy stuff with warc and cdx index. Check out W

What? I used to run 9front(a plan9 fork) on raspberry pi back in 2013. Their bootloader is closed source, so you have to use that to load your kernel.

How much memory does it use? My emacs instance uses ~200M with a moderate amount of files(along with other processes mostly repls). I would imagine VSCode to be in the same ballpark, and 200M is not that of a big deal imo.

No it won't be inferred as float->float->float if there is an int literal or whatever base type you pass to the function. Check typeclasses for how this works.

But it has nothing to with typing, as typing means tying to a location in program, you can have processes communicating part of the same program, but the type-error will refer to a part of program and when the type-error is detected i.e. du

You can't accidentally mix floats and ints, it's a typed language.

runtime here means the runtime of target program, it has nothing to do with unix. If your program fails while executing due to a type error, it's not static type-checking.

A chance to work on hard research problems; that is not possible without mentoring for most people. If everything you do in life is just money to you; then sure PhD is irrelevant and you find absurd reasons like immigration to justify it.

You seem to think that you can not sell open-source software. Yet all the linux based companies are doing that for decades now. There are many other examples.

No in typed language, this is not a problem because the compiler will refuse to compile. For uni-typed languages async/await is not the right model imho.

No idea what's your definition of customization is but running package update command isn't what i consider as customization. And updating kernel/pkgs doesn't require you to customize them.
