it's called don't use mysql for that. (sorry i'm a trolling postgres user, please don't mark me below -1) in a non trolling way, I'd like to see a PostgreSQL for MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle users.

no offense but 'end user kind of thing' isn't always where the money is at, b2b is the real money. of course you are right there aren't a thousand people like jobs, you'd be lucky to find 1, but the point of it is that there are plenty of p

now I want to know why I've been marked down? I think it's a good way to look at it. my application is too far down in the pile, nothing personal, I don't think mine was worse, it just never got reviewed because there are too many applicant

not to mention, yc prolly has a ton of applicants, they didn't even see yours. I'll apply earlier next time myself, but hopefully I'll also have a co-founder by then.

I don't know about incorporation, but an llc takes about as much in the US. it's not really an easy question generally. I'll probably end up waiting until closer to a 'production' release

the question is not one of 'should continue' it's one of should I go out and organize and start building the legal entity now, or should I code for 6 more months and try again.

what I'd like to know is (yes I've been rejected again) is should I consider organizing now... or continue coding and again hope to get picked up by yc in the next round (yes I know I don't need yc). they say the don't like dealing with exi

if you don't need gaming, I'd get a linux box ( or a mac ), and run windows in a virtual machine.

I'm not saying you should... but it might be a good idea to give even a generalized idea of what you are trying to build. even if it's a couple of lines, you don't have to sell your secret sauce. just show us the box.

that's a cop out. that's why for the most part my computer never seems to get faster, because the apps are getting slower. I doubt they are getting 'more correct'. I wish more projects thought like webkit and thought that performance was on

engine yard may be an exceptional exception to the rule. I was generalizing, and speaking of managed hosting in general. Like I said, I can't speak of engine yard specifically, I haven't worked for or with them.

or explicitly tell them how to configure their system, and what kind of a system to run it on. this doesn't help you avoid a dba, it merely avoids them having one.

There is no easy out, if you really need to scale, regardless of infrastructure you are going to need someone who understands databases. If you're lucky you might be able to find someone who can do more than one job. e.g. dba+sys admin. Jus

having managed hosting doesn't mean you don't need to a dba. In my experience all the host does (worked for a managed hosting company) is set up the servers and keep them running, their help really can't help you with tweaking queries or tu

I see no "leave a comment link". in fact there is no word "comment" on the page at all. Fail at web accessibility, you know the part where your site should work without javascript. At least I assume this is added if I allow one of the 10-is

in my experience people don't want the truth, most people aren't like hackers. Hackers love honesty, no matter how brutal, most people simply aren't like that. I don't mind a brutal critique so long as it includes advice on how to be better

criticism is not constructive if it cannot be. Criticizing vista is generally little other than an exercise of complaining, whining, etc. Microsoft most likely does not hear the majority of it, and therefore cannot do anything about it. You
