I’ve found for small sites, building a vue SPA and using react-snap to generate the pre-rendered static pages works great, and cut out a lot of the overhead I felt with gridsome.

I've tried to use Gridsome recently, after the .7 release I think, and it was just kind of painful. Managing the graphql layer just seemed over the top for my needs: static generation from markdown with dynamic vue components. I settle

Since Mojave, waking my 2012 rMPB results in a flash of desktop and content before showing the lock screen. This sounds similar, if not a continued degradation.

Totally likely! 1) Yeah, hard to say. If it's utility, building a product that can compete with _all_ of Facebook right out of the door seems quite difficult. You'd be constantly battling the network effect as you built up the so

Except, that 1) the network effect and critical mass make it next to impossible to gain any kind of foothold: your product must be better feature-wise, and it must have the same people or interface with the old—something Facebook has no int

You could use gitlab pages + netlify cms + gatsby; The Gatsby docs have an example: https://www.gatsbyjs.org/docs/sourcing-from-netlify-cms/

Interestingly, clear cuts mimic natural disturbance types (particularly in some of the historically fire maintained ecosystems). It's not quite as cut and dry as clear-cut logging is bad. That said, we're pulling far too much wood

My partner used to work for these folks, he'd say you were getting paid 9-13 cents to bend over. Folks making $200-350/day planting 2000-4000 trees each, with camps 60-100 people; summit runs multiple camps. It's quite the li

I was really surprised when APFS came out that it didn't support time machine. From the looks of this, it appears they're going to be able to write a new-style time machine on-top of APFS with the additions here. Interesting, over

I think the idea is platform agnosticism. What if you're serving to a client that doesn't understand html? You'll need to interpret it somehow...

That's just a load of click bate (read: bullshit). That's not what people mean when they ask "What's our closest neighbour" at all... interesting thoughts perhaps, but disingenuous.

I just looked up the name of this phenomenon about 10 minutes ago for something entirely unrelated... How self-reinforcing!

There is one difference here though: we have observed parthenogenesis in nature, so we know it can occur. We have not observed anything like a 'flat earth'.

Too much old crust, but as other commenters around indicate, this isn't really solving that either: it doesn't talk about best practices or even highlight where the sharp edges are (EOLs and Namespaces are mentioned elsewhere).

Nice little reference for anyone who already knows how to program, but might not know PHP. For anyone else, this isn't really going to help. There seems to be no explanation of _why_ you would want to do anything here or even how it re

An article about holding a small book with one hand, so you can easily read it, that has no pictures of anyone doing so. Why does this happen so often in newspaper style articles? Argh! Personally, I've moved from paper fiction to an e

There is no doubt that humans are shitty. Was that ever in question? The #metoo movement has brought forward, and into public discourse, a problem. Had this not been brought forward even Argento's indiscretions wouldn't be known.

This is ridiculous. The #metoo movement is not focused on "witch hunting", there are many different people associated with this "movement" and there is no real guiding person or organization that is focused on it. Indivi
