iPad is a strong brand, and I can't see Apple selling it as anything else. However it is not worth $1.6b. If the company holding the copyright wasn't about to go to the dogs I'd be more concerned. Apple can enter into a lengthy legal wrangl

I watched the programme last night and it was excellent. I've always held Alan Turing as one of my all time hero's of Computer Science. If you can manage to get hold of it I highly recommend watching it. On a side note I decided to read his

Most video games use floats. This is because doubles will be emulated in software on some platforms, thus making them incredibly slow. The Unreal Engine, for example uses floats extensively.

If I was actively seeking a new job, I can say with 99% certainty that I would have left with one. However I'm in a place where the startup movement has inspired me to try something on my own. If things don't work out I've got some great co

Also it's not always up to the games company, their publisher would not allow them to release the engine.

I really respect Carmack, he is one of the few programmers I'd describe as an industry trend setter. I've worked on many games in my career, and seen a lot of engines. When you read through the Q2 and perhaps a better example is the Q3 engi

One of the heuristics I implemented in my A , was to link information from the AI back to the routing grid. For example A will always pick the shortest route, however this isn't the best route. Imagine you have the AI pinned down in a buil

Isn't this like admitting you have a drug problem and instead of going cold turkey, you decide to just have an occasional hit. I agree with the authors philosophy, however you need to go full cold turkey!

A companies identity is a peculiar thing. Remember not so long ago it was rumored that Microsoft was going to buy Nokia? People seemed to out of hand reject this as a bad move. Yet Google comes along (with arguably the same ambitions) and b

I use a simple rule, treat all new code as production code, don't assume you'll have time to go back and optimise it, because you won't, ever.

I thought I lived in the UK and not China. So now I have to put up with a half baked economy, the media running the country, corrupt police force and now government tailored internet. At least in China they've got a strong economy, if the h
