The obsessions are because you can have serverless architecture and spin up things on demand. If you Need to load a ton of things that kills performance and latencies add up.

This completely ignores the the cost of setting up your cloud VMs, cost of downtime if your Internet is down etc. Sure an actual home server might be more expensive in electricty alone, but you can keep your VMs there 24/7 for not extr

How do you define done? Software is never done. A better way to look at things is whether a feature is in good enough shape and whether moving on to working on other things is likely to be more beneficial.

Same here, I think it's a very nice system to learn programming with (certainly nicer, more forgiving than c++) As time went by I moved on to PHP and other things. Is there anything that actually requires deep, low level OS hooks or an

It's a good strategy, if you can afford not to withdraw from the fund on the year (and for several years after) you 97% bet turns sour - there was an article somewhere, which showed that options on S&P singe the great depression al

I live in a country which requires a B-1 anyway. The reason we have to apply for visas is that too many (3%) people overstay their visas or something like that. Well, I got the visa bought the tickets and got asked about my return tickets

The facts don't support this guy. Levi Strauss has no magical tech in place, just some commodity clothes with a bit of history, marketing attached to it. Management style adda very little here.

the 'eventual consistency' is ok for some use cases, but for those cases you have tools like Cassandra which are orders of magnitude faster. I just don't know who'd want to deal with mongodb consistency model in producti

Do you find subway-style to be a good method of conveying information? People seem to have agreed that the use of distinct colors is good, but are there more efficient ways of conveying the same info, for a given size? For example London tu

I always wonder, why not isolate on a process level, or even withing a single, multi-threaded app. Sure you can run some sort of web service on hundreds of docker containers or you can run a single, fast web server that scales?
