As someone who learned programming in VB, I agree with you. As a junior high kid I was able to make things from business calculators to arcade style games. Was my code great? NO. Was it hip and trendy? Back then... maybe, but no. Am I now a

Your startup will die, if... you are a solo founder with a day job and enough work for 15 developers.

I read that article with no previous knowledge of the comic or debacle in question. I thought they must have practically raped someone themselves, or paid someone to do it for them. The actual comic was actually a pretty spot on message abo

Oh cool! I'm on HN pretty constantly and a quick slide showed me that I'm not on quite as always as I thought.

Yeah... I'm not usually one to "mean" online, but this is a case where people are really getting ahead of themselves. I mean, throwing up a poorly themed Wordpress template with poor English and disregarding web standards....

I would also note that if you're/they're using a recruiter, the recruiter often does this stuff. A recruiter contacted me for a local start up I was interested in, so I sent my resume along and they "made some small adju

Interesting, thank you for the education. I always considered "financial independence" having a positive net value/no debt. I guess you can tell what kind of situation I'm used to.

I don't understand how you haven't already achieved financial independence. I would love to have $10k in the bank and no commitments. Unless you left out the $60k in student/loans and debt then... I double my previous stateme

Cleveland isn't terrible. You could buy plenty of houses for $70-$90k which is about the yearly salary for a great developer here. It seems like the tech scene is coming up, but the salaries are lagging. Right out of school it's h

It's actually kind of obvious. If there weren't benefits, people wouldn't use it, and there are some pretty obvious benefits. Why use a directly compiled language instead of a scripting language put through two(?) layers of t

We have a guy at my work like that and people don't mind it. I actually like going to him for advice since he's going to be blunt. I think it's a matter of being a dick and being right. If you're a dick and you're w

I think there's something to be celebrated about finally standing up and saying "OK! This is done enough to call it done". As a software creator it feels great. Software is never truly finished but taking that step and declar

"Congratulations on arbitrarily incrementing a version number?" ... Such a shitty attitude. I give the guy from firebase who replied to you credit for not being snarky when your comment started with that ignorance.

So, a Show HN: is always a good idea, but it seems hit or miss. I'll openly admit that I have no clue how HN works. We recently submitted a side project of ours, it got some upvotes and it ended up #15 or something after a couple hours

I would practice failing at things. It took a ton of pushing from a friend/co-founder to actually release a recent project. If I were on my own I would have never "finished" it. It wasn't done. People would mock me. Peop

Can you try using a canvas and drawing the images yourself instead of with divs? Or, see if threejs has any way of implementing what you want. They have some demos with huge numbers of elements and 60fps.
