We joke, but actually the legacy team I took over a few years ago, used to do this (email each other stuff, and versioning/branching was basically copying folders around). I had to drag them kicking and screaming into git (and self-ho

In the same vein, as an old unix dog, I'm very annoyed by golang's -help vs -h and --help. Given the pedigree of the creators, I really am quite puzzled as to why they took this approach. Is there some sort of injoke where -help

A lot of people here have posted very good advice, so let me just make you feel a bit better; as a "senior" consultant, I once dropped a customer's production database, because production of course has a D suffix, whilst Deve

I spent a lot of time having lunch by the banks of the Torrens, and rowing 4s and 8s on the river. Would be sad to see the banks overrun by buildings (ala hawaii beaches), public access or not.

During COVID, as a CTO, I tell my team to DM me after stand-ups if they aren't sure about their tasks or work, or even how to get started. I'm more than happy to spend 2-3 hours on a separate remote call with an individual, where

Scams are getting more and more sophisticated. We've always known that when you write a playbook, sooner or later the red team will find holes in that playbook. Perhaps that's where ML/AI comes in, since you can train them,

I've been recently searching for some very specific keyword stuff, and bumping into a lot of sites which seemed like just reformatted copy-n-paste of stackoverflow and various mailing lists, adding zero value and clogging up the top 10

I hit this recently too, where a complex query was taking ~300ms, and I decided to fold some sub queries into a CTE, and it promptly (pun intended) went down to ~30ms. Plus point, it made my query easier to understand too!

White papers are to CxOs what TED talks are for the uninformed, an easy way to get someone up to speed on a highly complicated subject, and more fool them (meaning the uninformed) if they think it means they are now an expert, which sadly a
