I find concept videos like this often grossly over-simplify the problem of contextual computing, or even personalization for the matter. I think today we already have plenty of context -- A paypass-equipped credit card can already provide c

JESUS CHRIST their layout is annoying! I'm sorry I couldn't even read the article because there's so much CSS garbage on that page!

I write like that on occasion. Pretty sure it's because my thought process isn't like a linear story. It's more like a series of contextually leveled bullets -- each inner statement adding some useful (albeit sometimes unnec

This looks like it's actually GOOD -- keep doing it! With these corporations having a common enemy, it seems to have united the industry to take on big brother. I can't see anything negative coming as a direct consequence of this

I've been thinking this for a while too! The best comparison would be something akin to "Would you like to allow cnn.com to access XYZ?" that most mobile phones use these days. It seems that the more locked-down hardware man

That's what file system permissions are for, on the private key. (I might be wrong about this, but...) I've seen quite a few instances where SSH refuses to let people even try to log in if there's a chance that a private key

When you put it that way it doesn't sound nearly as impressive: Real World: A) Upgrading the software on our hardware costs money. B) Upgrading the software on our hardware does not cost money. Reality Distortion Field: A) Our software

Exactly. Today I was astounded when I found out that passing NULL to std::string::operator=() results in a crash. Qt's QString and QByteArray classes run null checks on practically everything.

Why not put Windows on Windows ? Metro's UI happens to support dynamic layouts. If were allowed to exist within a window, it would coexist a lot more than what they're doing now. Suddenly there would be no penalty for developi

I find that vlc (a la ffmpeg) doesn't implement the divx codec properly in some cases. In vlc, some of the videos that i have get slower the farther along you are in the playback stream. Yet with the Divx Player, the media plays back

Does anybody find it odd that the only reputable shred of journalistic integrity that the wall street journal vomited into this entire article was in a FOOTNOTE about how blackberry's Z30 was just released today, of all days! Since w

I'm sorry but the article cited in the wall street journal has absolutely no journalistic integrity whatsoever: '--preparing for deep staff cuts—up to 40% of its employees—by the end of the year, people familiar with the matter sa

This really doesn't sound legit. I suspect they might be thinking of backdooring the truecrypt client , which, really wouldn't make it much of a feat. The container format itself is really just a giant mathematical mess -- there
